Position Overview

CRH America's Materials is on a transformational journey to implement a new company wide technology roadmap for unified ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning), MDM (Master Data Management), and EPM (Enterprise Performance Management) applications.

The Principal Program Manager serves a critical role and will act as the key program leader for this transformation. The team size (CRH employees and consultants) working on this multi-year transformation is expected to be 100+ team members including 7-8 project managers. This role will be the senior most in the PMO assigned to the transformation program and will be accountable for the on-time and within-budget execution. The program manager will work along with other project managers on the program to ensure that the work done by their workstreams aligns to the shared goals for the entire program, are coordinated for execution on a common timeline, with a robust understanding of the dependencies, risks, and issues across the entire team.

The Principal Program Manager will be responsible for leading the program's day-to-day activities with the goal of driving cross-functional coordination and communication to support the business, IT groups, third-party contractors, and consultants.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Lead and work with all other project managers assigned to the program.

  • Work with Business, IT, and Consulting Partners workstream leads for all projects and sub-tracks across the program.

  • Plan, schedule and track program timelines, resources, milestones, and deliverables using program/project management tools and best practices.

  • Set, communicate, and continually manage project expectations with team members and other stakeholders in a timely, clear, and concise manner.

  • Clearly explain things such as timelines, objectives, deliverables, budgets, and more in language that translates to numerous different audiences.

  • Identify and manage program dependencies and critical path issues/risks.

  • Proactively manage changes in program scope, schedule, resources, and budget.

  • Coordinate the efforts of all project team members and contractors, influencing them to take positive action and accountability for their assigned work.

  • Maintain a broad business perspective about how individual projects support the larger goals of the organization.

  • Ensure that all program/project deliverables align with and support the strategic business goals of the applicable products.

  • Responsible for running the Scrum of Scrums for multiple Agile teams.

  • Lead the teams in adopting Agile/Scrum methodology via training and coaching, encouraging self-organized teams and Agile usage.

  • Ensure the product team has capacity to execute within each sprint resolving capacity and resource issues in collaboration with the solution lead.

Education/Experience


  • Bachelor's degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or Business Degree.

  • PMP - Certified Project Management Professional preferred.

  • CSM - Certified Scrum Master preferred.

  • 10+ years of managing teams implementing or supporting enterprise scale SAP ERP

  • Experience leading large (30+ members) teams of SAP ERP project resources on complex multi-year implementations.

  • 8+ years of progressive experience managing teams.

  • 5+ years of large enterprise experience supporting financial applications.

  • 3+ years of experience working as Functional lead on SAP ERP implementations.

  • Strong knowledge of the Financial SAP ERP modules, with prior experience working in Finance Functional roles highly preferred.

  • Financial process design and implementation experience and acumen required.

  • Detail-oriented, pragmatic, analytical professional with excellent communication and consensus building skills.

  • Highly skilled in managing communication with/between sponsors, stakeholders, and technical teams throughout the entire life cycle of multi-year, multi-phase enterprise software programs.

  • Ability to consistently drive self and others to achieve results despite obstacles and setbacks.

  • Strong leadership skills that inspire team confidence and respect while motivating team members in a creative and effective manner.

  • Must have experience in managing and working with distributed team members.

  • Flexible in conforming to shifting priorities, demands and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities.

  • Ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources, including upper management, clients, and other departments.

  • Strong understanding of different software development life cycles (waterfall, agile), program/project management processes, and automated tools.

  • Ability to achieve results with a hands-on, collaborative approach; works well in a team.

  • Excellent problem solving, interpersonal, communication, and project management skills a must.

  • Persuasive, encouraging, and motivating.

  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 50% (average 25% but will be higher during key project milestones such as User Acceptance Testing, Go-Live)

  • Able to communicate with others by telephone and in person.

  • Able to utilize a computer for word processing, email communication, and preparation of documents and presentations.

  • May require sitting for extended periods of time.
