The Impact You’ll Make in this Role 

As a Software Development Supervisor, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:


  • Provide direct technical supervision of one or more teams responsible for developing 3M HIS products, including Developers and Quality Assurance.  This includes hiring, establishing and tracking goals and objectives, assigning workload, training, and facilitating the performance review process.

  • Assist Technical Product Owner for a team working both to deliver HIS grouping content under the existing technology stack while simultaneously architecting and developing the replacement technology stack in a methodical manner.

  • Set technical direction and establish, prioritize and work with the development team to define and update the team’s backlog in concert with Tech Leads.

  • Mentor development staff with duties such as analysis, software design, prototyping, coding, debugging, test case creation, test case automation, test case execution, documentation, support, infrastructure maintenance. 

  • Participate on cross-functional teams, coordinate and communicate with Product Owners, Business Leaders, Developers and others.

  • Champion Agile principles throughout the organization.

  • Create an atmosphere of innovation and enable professional growth.

  • Conflict / Change management ownership to ensure productivity.

Your Skills and Expertise   

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M is looking for candidates who must (at a minimum) have the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a Computer Science or Information Systems discipline (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution and seven (7) years of software development experience

 OR

  • High School Diploma/GED or higher (completed and verified prior to start) and fourteen (14) years of software development experience


  • Seven (7) years of software development experience in a private, public, government or military environment 

  • Three (3) years of team leadership experience (supervisor, manager, team lead)

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:


  • Experience in a supervisory role

  • Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS)

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Experience with consuming Web services and web application development (SOAP/REST, Javascript/Angular)

  • Experience CI/CD

  • Experience with Java software development

  • Familiar with SQL and relational database design

  • Knowledge of Agile methodology and experience working with distributed team members

  • Ability to solve problems in a logical, methodical, and time efficient manner

  • Ability to direct and influence others

Work location:


  • Work Your Way Eligible (Employee choice to work remote, on site, or hybrid)

  • Meriden, CT, Murray, UT, Remote USA

Travel: May include up to 10%

Relocation Assistance: May be authorized
