JOB SUMMARY Assist furnace operators by performing tasks necessary in the preparation of molds to be loaded and unloaded into the furnaces. Once certified, o perate and maintain one or more of several different types of furnaces to produce high quality castings for the Aerospace Industry. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/DUTIES
Operate tow motor to move alloy to furnace from crib and load molds into pre-heat overs.
Load alloy charges onto and into the furnace.
Load molds into pre-heat ovens.
Unload molds from oven at 2100 degrees; 15-60 lbs
Place molds on carts to cool.
Unload grates.
Load molds into casting units.
Unload molds filled with molten metal.
Perform basic Maintenance around furnace (TPM).
Help maintain machine when problems occur.
Perform 6S duties of furnace and foundry.
Participate in continuous improvement efforts.
Adhere to all policies and procedures with emphasis on safety.
Support foundry operators as needed.
Read and interpret work orders and instructions in order to determine work assignments, process specifications, and production schedules.
Clean, lubricate, and adjust equipment, using scrapers, solvents, air hoses, oil, and hand tools.
Load molds into the pre-heat ovens for cast.
Prepare furnaces for casting.
Cast test bars to sample metal for analysis.
Pour and regulate the flow of molten metal into molds and forms to produce ingots or other castings.
Position equipment such as ladles, grinding wheels, pouring nozzles, or crucibles, or signal other workers for assistance.
Skim slag or remove excess metal from ingots or equipment, using hand tools, strainers, rakes, or burners.
Collect scrap for recycling.
Add hot top to molds to compensate for shrinkage.
Bag-wrap molds and place in cooling carts.
Load specified amounts of metal and flux into furnaces or clay crucibles.
Weigh or measure specified amounts of ingredients or materials for processing, using devices such as scales and calipers.
Monitor equipment operation, gauges, and panel lights in order to detect deviations from standards. R eport equipment malfunctions to Team Leaders, equipment operators and Maintenance.
Record gauge readings, test results, and shift production in log books.
Drain, transfer, or remove molten metal from furnaces, and place it into molds, using hoists, pumps, or ladles.
Transport materials and products to and from work areas, manually or using carts, hand trucks, lift trucks, hoists or manipulators.
Maintain a clean and organized work area.
Adhere to and enforce proper safety/security procedures and protocol.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
Experience: Manufacturing experience (prior foundry and investment casting experience is desired)
Certifications/Licenses: tow motor license
Other Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Basic pre-heat oven knowledge, knowledge of safety rules, knowledge of 6S, basic mechanical skills, legible handwriting, good verbal communication skills, team player
