Job Description:

As a Manufacturing Engineer with Manitowoc Cranes, you will be responsible for routine design work requiring the application of standard techniques, procedures and criteria in carrying out a sequence of related engineering tasks; provide work analysis to maintain production standards and cost estimates.  Your technical capabilities will be developed that allow for limited exercise of judgment on design details, development, and presentation and will begin to handle more aspects of small to medium projects while developing independence in operation and, therefore, requiring less direct supervision.  You will help work on special projects including equipment justification and shop efficiency improvements. 


The position reports to a Manufacturing Engineering Manager and is located in Shady Grove, Pennsylvania.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:



  • Continually evaluate and develop manufacturing methods to eliminate waste and thereby improve product quality, lead-time and cost in a safe and environmentally benign manner 

  • Research, benchmark, simulate and implement global best manufacturing methods, practices and systems.                

  • Perform process simulation, define constraints, develop, recommend and implement solutions.   

  • Develop and maintain plant and facilities layout to optimize workflow.     

  • Develop design for manufacturing and purchase standards and guidelines.             

  • Develop and maintain core-strength and process performance capability criteria.

  • Lead research, simulation, justification, recommendation, implementation, & return analysis of capital investment projects.       

  • Perform product and process cost and value analysis.       

  • Facilitate internal continuous improvement processes.    

  • Provide support for the selection of qualified suppliers for the manufacture of components, for the review of part costs at outside suppliers and to vendors selected to manufacture parts.        

  • Provide manufacturing technical support to the purchasing department.

  • Ability to wear all Personal Protective Equipment (P.P.E.) required, by company policy, for the job being performed.         

  • Develop, maintain, and document manufacturing processes and work instructions and assure conformance to ISO standards.   


JOB REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:



  • Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing engineering with a minimum of 1 year experience preferred. Will consider applicants with a technical degree with 3 years’ experience in manufacturing/manufacturing engineering or a high school education with a minimum of 5 years’ same experience.

  • Knowledge of Lean/Six Sigma processes a strong plus.      

  • Must have extensive knowledge of computer programs related to Manufacturing Engineering functions and Current Word Processing and Spread Sheet software. 

  • Experience in CAD System operation and administration required.              

  • Position requires the ability to work at a jobsite or production factory environment, heat, cold, wet, dry, etc. for brief periods of time. 

  • Must be able to travel both domestically and internationally as required.
