Job Description:

This position is responsible for providing leadership in the hospital environment and in collaboration with the interdisciplinary care teams to direct patient care and ensure optimal patient outcomes utilizing existing resources. 72 hours biweekly.

Clinical Judgment :

  • Develops, implements, evaluates, and modifies clinical practice to meet individual patient and family needs
  • Collects and interprets complex patient flow data. Focuses on key elements of situation while sorting out extraneous detail and exercises clinical judgment based on an immediate grasp of the whole picture for the patient population
  • Collaborates with the physician in charge to coordinate flow and adjusts resources to meet patient care demands

  • Clinical Inquiry :
  • Identifies clinical questions. Seeks advice, resources or information to improve patient care.
  • Utilizes and contributes to evidence based practice of continuous improvement and flow strategies.

  • Caring Practices :
  • Shares clinical expertise with associates and provides coaching and direction for the optimal quality of care and patient and family experience.
  • Initiates cost-effective and appropriate quality care by:

    • Reviews and adjusts nursing assignments of associates in collaboration with nursing leadership to insure adequate coverage in a cost effective manner.

      • Leads scheduled team huddles and calls for other huddles as conditions in the unit change. Ensures key performance metrics are shared.
      • Identifies issues on a shift and initiates actions to correct the problem and maintains open communication with unit leadership related to these.
      • Provides recommendations to improve workflows and efficiency.


  • Consistently shows empathy, sensitivity and insight and is able to intervene in stressful situations.
  • Contributes to a nurturing environment that is supportive of colleagues in less than optimal situations.
  • Anticipates and integrates cultural differences into patient and family care.
  • This position also includes all the essential functions of a registered nurse, transport nurse , or specialty nurse that this position supports

  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team as well as associates working in ancillary departments for optimal outcomes throughout the continuum of care or admission to hospital.
  • Works as a team member to ensure optimal patient outcomes. Supports colleagues by maintaining an attitude of respect and interdependency.
  • Develops problem solving strategies based upon the unique needs and strengths of the patient and family.

  • Systems Thinking :
  • Participates in departmental and hospital programs for Quality Assessment and Improvement, identifying opportunities to improve services, making recommendations and implementing actions as appropriate and consistent with the goals of the Nemours Foundation.
  • Demonstrates leadership ability in responding to situations and efficiently uses existing resources

  • Facilitation of Learning :
  • Individualizes patient and family teaching. Utilize available electronic resource.
  • Helps evaluate effectiveness of patient and family education utilizing the teach back methodology.

  • Qualifications:

    • Graduate of Accredited School of Nursing.
    • Current Delaware or compact nursing license
    • American Heart Association BLS, PALS within 6 months and ACLS within one year
    • Preferred charge nurse experience, 3-5 years nursing experience
