About the Position:
This role is an on-campus, in-person position.
Residence Life & Student Housing (RLSH) at Southern Methodist University (SMU), is seeking a Marketing and Communications Specialist to coordinate the marketing, social media, promotions, communication, and overall brand management for RLSH. This professional will streamline internal and external marketing requests to ensure an effective and cohesive brand for RLSH.
Essential Functions:
Coordinates and implements marketing communication projects that include public relations, advertising, creating brand awareness and special events management for the RLSH department. Coordinates promotions including selecting and ordering promotional items and overseeing the design, printing, mailing, and delivery of promotional materials.
Recruits, hires, evaluates, trains, and supervises the RLSH Street Team, a student-led, marketing and communications team of five to ten students who provide administrative and content generation support for the department.
Coordinates the Residence Life & Student Housing websites. Develops and monitors RLSH social media outlets (Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, ISSU, YouTube, etc.).
Manages and reconciles a marketing and communications budget. Performs requests for proposals, purchasing, and invoice payments related to the area. Maintains the audio and visual equipment for the unit.
Serves as a liaison and representative for RLSH for recruitment and campus events.
Supports the implementation and realization of the goals and learning domains in the Student Affairs strategic plan and RLSH strategic plan, including other duties as assigned.
Occasional evening/weekend hours will be required for department events.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
A Bachelor's degree is required. A Master's degree is preferred. A degree in Marketing or a related field is preferred.
A minimum of three years work experience is required. Experience working in university housing programs is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Candidate must demonstrate strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate broadly across the University and develop and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Must also demonstrate strong written communication skills.
Candidate must possess strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and analyze problems, as well as devise solutions. Must also have strong organizational, planning and time management skills.
Candidate must be attentive to detail, accuracy and ability to appropriately handle budgetary data, procurement, and monitoring of expenses.
Candidate must be able to demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Candidate familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, Qualtrics, Canvas, Hootsuite and ISSUU, or other similar programs, is preferred.
