About the Position:


This role is an on-campus, in-person position.


Journeyman level work in the performance of preventative, proactive and reactive maintenance of electrical equipment to include, but not limited to: indoor/outdoor, lighting, switchgear, transformers, vaults, and generator sets.


Essential Functions:


  • Perform weekly, quarterly and annual preventative and predictive maintenance.


  • Special projects/duties as may be directed.


  • Report findings and update reports.


  • Repairs, installs, replaces and tests electrical circuits, equipment and appliances using the necessary handtools and testing instruments.


  • Inspects and tests electrical lighting, power circuits and equipment.


  • Isolating defects in wiring, switches, motors, and other electrical equipment using suitable testing instruments.


  • Examining and testing all elements of electrical systems to locate obvious faults, such as blown fuses, short circuits, broken wires, and loose connections.


  • Renewing circuits in the form of isolating and/or cutting out the defective wiring and replacing with new wiring or splicing.







Qualifications



Education and Experience:


A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Preferably a bachelor's degree.


A minimum of five (5) years of experience with commercial/industrial lighting, and electrical systems to include: generators, switchgear, and transformers is required


Must posses TX Journeyman Electrician license and TX driver's license.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


Candidate must be familiar with electrical infrastructure distribution. Candidate must demonstrate strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate broadly across the University and develop and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of constituencies. Must also demonstrate strong written communication skills.


Candidate must possess strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and analyze problems, as well as devise solutions. Must also have strong organizational, planning and time management skills.


Basic computer skills is required. Ability to manage CMMS.


This position requires on-call rotation responsibilities for evening and weekend work as well as scheduled and unscheduled work for hours other than normal business hours. Schedules may be adjusted to accommodate coverage for 1st & 2nd shifts during weekdays and/or weekends for temporary or permanent shift changes
