General Summary
The Laboratory Services team is looking for a candidate to join their Analytical Research Laboratory, supporting Scotts Research & Development. The position will report directly to the Manager of Lab Services and work closely with the staff of the Analytical Research Lab, Packaging Test Lab, Process & Formulations team, and Corporate Quality to analyze new and existing Scotts products ranging from fertilizers to pesticides.
Key Work Performed
The chemist will support the work of the Analytical Research Laboratory by doing the following:
Prepare samples for (and conduct) chemical analysis
Work with Formulations staff in the analytical characterization of new products
Analyze samples via spectrophotometric, chromatographic, and wet chemistry techniques
Record laboratory information and results in notebooks and databases
Report results to the customer
Develop, validate, and troubleshoot methods
Assist with instrument/equipment maintenance
Serve as a chemist for the Scotts EPA-GLP programs
Minimum Requirements
A. Education:
Minimum B.S. degree in a physical science discipline (chemistry preferred)
B. Experience:
At least 2-4 years of experience in an analytical lab environment
A thorough understanding of analytical lab principles and procedures
Ability to troubleshoot unexpected lab results, equipment issues, and adapting/developing analytical methods.
C. Knowledge:
Experience with MS Excel, basic laboratory principles and preferably, this individual would have taken both general and organic chemistry
D. Skills and Abilities:
Excellent organization and time management skills
Self-driven in a busy and detail-oriented technical environment
The starting budgeted pay range for this role will generally fall between $49,700.00 - $58,500.00 per year. Scotts will consider various factors in determining the actual pay including your skills, qualifications, experience, and geographical location.
