PURPOSE STATEMENT
Purpose for the Lab manager role is to oversee the day-to-day operations of R&D labs, ensuring that all operations/procedures are conducted safely, efficiently, and in compliance with industry standards. The lab manager will be responsible for managing a team of lab associates for day-to-day lab support and sample shipments. Additionally, the lab manager will be responsible for maintaining laboratory equipment, ordering and tracking inventory, R&D capital projects management, implementation of food safety program and maintaining accurate records maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES/OUTCOMES
Safety
* Ensure that lab safety is a top priority and that the lab is a safe environment
* Develop and maintain lab Food Safety program and be a central point of contact for all safety concerns
* Proactively takes measures to ensure a safe work area and conduct routine safety walkthroughs
* Document safety incidents and oversee timely creation and completion of CAPA s
* Understand the building safety programs for the world headquarter and represent the R&D
Maintenance and cleaning
* Coordinate all maintenance activities in the lab and develop and implement a work order system
* Develop standard operating procedures to ensure lab equipment and instrumentation are in good repair and kept current with respect to cleaning, preventive maintenance, calibration, and inspection
* Maintain accurate equipment management systems and records by developing PM list for key equipment, spare parts
* Responds to R&D Associate requests for maintenance, calibration, and cleaning
* Coordinate general lab and utility maintenance systems
* Coordinate proper cleaning of the lab
* Supervise cleaning and sanitization team
* Develops, maintains, and ensure daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning schedule
Materials
* Manage ingredient and packaging storeroom and responsible for maintaining inventories of ingredients, packaging, and supplies
* Responsible for ordering the ingredients for the lab and pilot plant
* Develop and utilize an automated system for inventory management
Shipping and receiving
* Manage ordering and receiving ingredient, packaging, products
* Manage the shipment of customer samples timely and efficient manner
* Ensure that shipments are received and reconciled with purchase orders, accurately entered inventory systems, and delivered to correct personnel or stock locations
* Manage all shipping and receiving activities as requested by R&D team
Leadership
* Provide daily leadership to the lab coordinators and support staff for daily operations of the lab
* Be a role model and excellent coach and mentor for the team
* Provide daily leadership through understanding the priorities for R&D associates and support with a collaborative and positive attitude.
Capital Budget management
* Work with R&D leadership to identify and prioritize lab needs
* Develop annual R&D capital plan
* Implement Capital Projects, manage scope and budget
* Maintain relationships with key supply vendors
Other lab support
* Ensure GLPs are established and met
* Manage lab vendor contracts for supplies.
* Keeps record of lab costs and completes monthly spending report
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
BS/BA degree in Food/ Sciences, related field, or equivalent
At least 3-5 years of related, demonstrated laboratory operations experience managing and scaling lab operations in a Food, biotechnology, or pharmaceutical research environment
Hands-on experience with laboratory information systems such as inventory management, equipment calibration, monitoring, etc
Direct people management experience required
Excellent communication, interpersonal, multi tasking and prioitation skills
Experience managing and prioritizing inputs from different stakeholders to deploy a plan that meets the needs of lab operations
Proficiency planning and managing small projects
Demonstrated experience authoring SOP s
Proficient in GMP, GLP, and GDP
