PURPOSE STATEMENT
The General Laborer is responsible for performing labor tasks within and around the plant.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES/OUTCOMES
Unstacking pallets of ingredient materials such as sauce cups and dumping the contents into tubs; these bags or boxes weigh between 10 and 40 pounds
Picking up small amounts of cheese bags, cartons, or other products and placing these products into edible tubs or on a conveyor belt
Using both hands, and reaching approximately 18-20 inches across the conveyor, arranging or aligning food products on the belt to achieve optimum "loading" for proper breading, frying, or freezing
Inspecting product at various points on the conveyor, and using knowledge and training about the visual quality guidelines, sorts and picks out unacceptable product and places this in the proper "inedible" container
Inspecting bags to make sure they are sealed properly
Picking up bags of product weighing from 1/2 pound to 10 pounds and placing these into the final box or case, placing it on a conveyor to go through a taping machine, robot packer, or to be hand-taped
Tape cases using a hand-held tape application machine
Wiping down food processing conveyors or tables
Sweeping food debris on the floor into small piles, picking it up with a dustpan, and placing it in the proper waste container
Disposing of paper, plastic or other packaging material into the proper trash container
Pushing trash carts or carrying tubs of waste materials to proper disposal area
Using a low-pressure water hose to wash down the last traces of food debris down the drain, consistent with plant waste water and sanitation policies
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
Must have a high school diploma or general education degree (GED)
Must have the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Must have the ability to write simple correspondence and effectively communicate information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, other employees in the organization and vendors.
Must have the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole number, common fractions and decimals
Must have the ability to work in and contribute to Production Improvement Teams and other temporary teams as assigned or as a volunteer
Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Ability to conduct basic troubleshooting to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
Ability and desire to train other associates
