PURPOSE STATEMENT
The Engineering Manager is responsible for performing diverse engineering analysis, managing engineering projects and implementing process changes for operations. This includes machine capability evaluations, new designs or modifications of equipment, and developing sound technical solutions to production issues relating to materials, processes, and procedures to maximize efficiency and yields. Responsible for Capital Project management including equipment design, performance evaluation, business justifications, project management and administration, Factory Acceptance Tests, line start-up and validation of the operation.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES/OUTCOMES
* Manages engineering projects from inception through completion. Initiates concepts, develops designs, estimates costs, formulates justifications, coordinates installations, troubleshoots operational start-ups, and trains required personnel on new equipment.
* Works with packaging and R&D on new materials, equipment, processes and engineering practices for improved performance. Analyzes performance impacts on equipment.
* Prepares engineering design and calculations, cost estimates, plant surveys, line performance analysis and statistics.
* Develops and coordinates technical drawing files, CAD/3D-CAD file management, process documentation and technical knowledge base for the US/C library (Egnyte).
* Demonstrates thorough knowledge of capital project procedures and follows RPC directives and guidelines.
* Gathers Standard Operation Procedures for the operation of new equipment or changes to current equipment, in addition to provide technology transfer documentation and support to the plant.
* Participates on project teams as the engineering resource for the responsible categories and technologies.
* Installs or modifies equipment per EH&S requirements (i.e., OSHA, EPA, PSM, etc.)
* Understands equipment and line controls, process controls logic, architecture and components; PLCs, MMI, switches, etc.
* Represents the company's position and interest effectively in dealing with outside contractors, vendors, and engineering consultants as well as a constructive positive attitude within the teams and plants.
* Ensure Rich's Safety, Environmental, GMP and Clean Design standards are met and maintained.
* Assists in follow-up of prototype construction with outside vendors, including pilot lines' testing, validation and scale up.
* Secures quotations and expedites materials and delivery for projects as necessary.
* Communicates effectively and informs operational leaders of related work through regular communications, projects scheduling, and relevant meetings.
* Participates in plant steering team and corporate team meetings as required.
The Engineering Manager is responsible representing engineering for large initiatives within the business unit. This includes but not limited to:
* Direct interface with the Manufacturing Director and VP of Engineering
* Direct Interface with business leaders, plants as required, attend core team meetings.
* Develop business cases in cooperation with business, manufacturing, and finance leadership.
* Development of 3-year capital plan and execution.
* Develop detailed resource planning for large scale and high impact projects.
* Participate within acquisition teams providing Engineering due diligence.
* Provide input to Process Engineers as required, including performance reviews
* Develop risk analysis and capability development plans as needed.
* Represents Rich Products in EH&S, city and state with corporate teams leading.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
* A BS degree in engineering with 10+ years of experience in the Food or CPG industries. Experience in bakery and confectionary technologies / production systems is a plus.
* Direct experience with dry blending, batter mixing and depositing, oven baking, fryer cooking, cooling and/or freezing, and packaging technologies
* Demonstrated knowledge of functional computer design, ACAD and advanced 3D design tools
* Strong analytical and communication skills. Ability to write a concise report and technical / business recommendations.
* Experience in Total Productive Manufacturing (TPM) environments. Lean Manufacturing experience a plus.
* Capital project management experience. PMI certification would be a plus.
* Comfortable in a food manufacturing environment: understand operations, QA, sanitation, maintenance requirements.
* Experience in Continuous Improvement (CI) methodologies through innovative designs, driving cost savings and process optimization. Knowledge of Reliability Engineering tools & methodology would be a plus
* Agility - Able to arrive to sound technical solutions for immediate corrective actions or support.
* 30% travel and periodic weekend work may be required
