Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP, one of the world's leading global law firms with more than 4,000 lawyers and staff in 30 offices, is seeking to hire a Technical Specialist for the IP-Life Sciences Practice Group. The Technical Specialist will be supervised by an intellectual property partner, but will have daily contact with, and receive guidance from, all the lawyers in the practice group for whom this individual provides support.The Intellectual Property Practice Group has a law school tuition reimbursement program to provide financial assistance to eligible employees in the practice group who are enrolled in and satisfactorily complete courses of study toward being awarded a Juris Doctorate degree from accredited law schools.A hybrid work opportunity is available for this position.Responsibilities:Prepare, file, and prosecute patent applications before the US Patent and Trademark OfficePerform prior art searches and analysesConduct patentability analysesEngage in practice development activities to build and maintain client relationshipsPrepare substantive client correspondenceInstruct local counsel for foreign filings and Office ActionsAssist in patent clearance studies and other patent-related opinion projectsApply advanced concepts across all life sciences field, with particular emphasis and/or expertise in molecular biology, cell biology, and/or biochemistryStudy and analyze scientific or technical documents, including previously published patent documents, to assess patentability, novelty, and inventivenessConvert prior provisional applications into utility applicationsConvert foreign filed applications into U.S. applicationsConvert U.S. applications into foreign applicationsQualifications:An advanced degree (Masters or PhD) in a biological field, including for example Biochemistry or Molecular Biology or Cell Biology, or similar biologic science, with excellent academic credentialsAt least two (2) years of related experience in the field of life sciencesExcellent writing and research abilities are a must, as well as proficiency in written and verbal communicationsStrong organizational skillsFor job postings in San Francisco, CA, the salary range for this job postings is: $83,672.00 - $133,875.The base salary or hourly wage range for this position will be determined during the interview process and will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limited to prior experience, relevant expertise, current business needs, and market factors. The final salary or hourly wages offered may be outside of this range based on other reasons and individual circumstances. Additionally, salary or hourly wages may be only part of the total compensation package. The total compensation package for this position may also include a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
