A Day in the Life

Medtronic is looking for a passionate, experienced, and self-starter Test Engineer for our Bedford, MA., facility. This is a unique opportunity to join us early and play an important role in the design and verification of our novel hardware platform from concept through commercial release and beyond. As a Test Engineer, you will develop, run, and automate test procedures, isolate and communicate failures, contribute to system design and debugging, and support manufacturing of Affera's capital equipment. We are looking for bright individuals who are interested in making a difference in a dynamic and exciting entrepreneurial environment.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.


  • Participate and contribute to system and board-level design and debugging.
  • Verify, validate, and troubleshoot diagnostic instruments with a system level mindset.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive functional testing of the existing and new capital equipment designs.
  • Prepare and execute plan for hardware verification/validation and manufacturing functional testing in accordance with company documentation and regulatory and industry standards.
  • Write and edit software scripts for test automation and support manufacturing of capital equipment
  • Support various engineering development and lab maintenance activities as required
  • Ensure personal and Company compliance with all Federal, State, local and Company regulations, policies, and procedures.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements


  • Bachelors degree required in electrical engineering, bioedical engineering, or related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience

Nice to Have


  • Must be "hands on" in an electronics lab environment and have experience using basic test equipment.
  • Ability to lead and execute design verification and validation activities, including development of automated functional and electrical testing.
  • Knowledge of Python programming language for scripting is desired.
  • Experience in development and understanding of embedded firmware design (microcontrollers, FPGA) is a plus.
  • Familiarity with hardware engineering in a regulated environment is a plus.
  • Demonstrated leadership of technical solutions, with the capability to get results in a complex environment and managing multiple mission critical projects.
  • Educational or work experience in the field of Biomedical Engineering is desired. Experience in medical device development is a plus
