Job Summary/Description:
Our directors are called Technical Directors and as you can imagine, they do more than direct or push buttons. Multiple times a day, they partner with teammates, including producers and anchors to bring local content to life. Using the latest technology, they help commit to our newsroom philosophy of aggressive showcasing, using targeted rundown layering and studio storytelling. Our Technical team uses Grass Valley Ignite to produce our award winning newscasts.
This is an opportunity to manage our operations staff. The Production Manager manages scheduling, supervising and staff training to manage the look and feel of our newscasts and other non-news productions. Ultimately, s/he is a trusted thought partner for strategic planning and growth.
This position reports to the Chief Engineer of WFSB.
Duties/Responsibilities
include (but are not limited to):
• Supervise daily operation of Control Room automation in conjunction with
ENPS, Chyron Graphics, Panasonic/Telemetrics robotic cameras and studio
lighting for the execution of live newscasts, lifestyle shows and breaking news
cut-ins.
• Ability to Direct in an automated environment.
• Troubleshoot and maintain control room and studio equipment
• Lead control room using SOPs and best practices to create clean and
creative/interesting broadcasts
• Elevate newscasts using new techniques and technology by researching and
observing other stations
Qualifications/Requirements:
• Three (3) years'
experience with Grass Valley Ignite experience preferred but other automation
experience considered.
• Ability to lead and train staff of directors
• Demonstrated understanding of newsroom automation systems
• Strong organizational skills as a motivated, self-starter
• Ability to act professionally and effectively while engaging with station
management
• Creative and technical mindset
