About the Department



This position is situated within the Section of General Internal Medicine within the Department of Medicine at University of Chicago. Faculty within General Internal are recognized as national leaders in the areas of medical ethics, health economics and policy, health services and outcomes research.



Job Summary



The Clinical Research Data Manager 2 will work closely with research staff under the direction of physician investigator Dr. Anna Volerman, Internal Medicine/Pediatrics, to carry out grant-funded projects focused on issues at the intersection of health, education, and equity. They will support all aspects related to quantitative and qualitative data for several research and advocacy projects that focus on improving systems and reducing inequities in clinical, community, and professional settings. Specific topics may include on pediatric asthma, schools, community health workers, and physician workforce. This individual will be supervised by the Principal Investigator (PI) and Senior Research Coordinator.



Responsibilities



  • Supports research projects and performs complex research related duties and tasks with a focus on quantitative and qualitative data.


  • Manages day-to-day activities and data aspects of projects.


  • Performs literature reviews as well as summarizes and applies findings.


  • Develops data collection instruments (questionnaires, interview/focus group guides, logs, etc.).


  • Helps support data collection, including face-to-face and electronically, with variety of methods including surveys, interviews, focus groups and others as appropriate.


  • Maintains accurate and complete records.


  • Develops databases and data management procedures.


  • Conducts quality assurance on data collected.


  • Tracks progress and produces reports on data collection progress.


  • Organizes and cleans data.


  • Works with investigators to identify appropriate methods for research questions and hypotheses.


  • Analyzes quantitative data in concert with statistician and investigators.


  • Analyzes qualitative data, including interviews, focus groups, and open-ended survey responses, using qualitative software.


  • Reports results from analyses and interpret findings.


  • Assists with development of abstracts, posters, presentations, manuscripts, reports, and other outputs.


  • Prepares tables and figures for manuscripts, abstracts, and other scientific publications.


  • Coordinates and may participate in quality assurance reviews conducted by study sponsors, federal agencies, or specially designated review groups.


  • Analyzes study-related documentation, such as protocol worksheets, procedural manuals, adverse event reports, institutional review board documents, or progress reports.


  • Performs other related work as needed.

  • Research experience or relevant experience.





Technical Skills or Knowledge:



  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Adobe Acrobat.


  • Well versed in medical and/or clinical trial terminology.


  • Background in relevant scientific field.


  • Knowledge and experience with research databases and software.





Preferred Competencies



  • Demonstrated ability to abstract subject data from medical record/source documentation and enter into care report forms and/or databases.


  • Background generating and resolving queries and/or monitoring data.


  • Handle competing demands with diplomacy and enthusiasm.


  • Perform research data management with minimal supervision.

  • Work collaboratively and with divisional research offices.


  • Maintain a high degree of confidentiality with clinical data and client's proprietary data.
