The Section of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine has been a model of exemplary patient care, research, and post-doctoral training for more than 20 years. The 30 faculty, clinical associates and research associates along with a staff of more than 72, have devoted themselves to the pursuit of excellence in each of these important activities.



Job Summary



The Clinical Research Nurse is a part of the Sleep Research Center in the Department of Medicine at the University of Chicago, which consists of physician and PhD investigators, research coordinators, sleep technicians, data managers and trainees. The Sleep Research Center conducts clinical research studies focusing on the links between insufficient sleep/sleep disorders and cardiometabolic health.



Responsibilities



  • Conducts overnight clinical study visits in accordance with protocol.


  • Overnight shifts are one/week (9AM-9PM).


  • Refers patients to other healthcare resources when necessary.


  • Educates study subjects about study protocol.


  • Conducts clinical study visits in accordance with protocol.


  • Monitors the subject prior to, during and after study drug administration according to the protocol.


  • Elicits and assesses adverse experiences and communicates these to the Investigator.


  • Evaluates subject laboratory and physical findings with Investigator/sub-investigators; provides or obtains further information from subjects or healthcare providers as required in order to assist in diagnosis and treatment.


  • Applies logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.


  • Interprets information from caregivers, nurses, or physicians about patient condition, treatment plans, or appropriate activities.


  • Performs other related work as needed.





Minimum Qualifications




Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Experience:

  • Nursing experience.





Preferred Competencies



  • Fundamental working knowledge of clinical research.


  • Knowledge of patient care fundamentals, including aseptic principles and techniques.


  • Ability to provide direct patient care in a professional and respectful manner.


  • Excellent verbal and written communication.


  • Ability to read documents or instruments.


  • Ability to perform multiple concurrent tasks with occasional interruptions.


  • Ability to exercise discretion and confidentiality while handling sensitive situations.
