Location: Charlottesville, Virginia
The Department of Medicine, Division of Hematology and Oncology at the University of Virginia's (UVA) School of Medicine, seeks a candidate for a Senior Lab Specialist to provide scientific and technical support for laboratory-based research pertaining to molecular genetics with a heavy emphasis on DNA repair, DNA recombination, and CRISPR-mediated gene editing. The Senior Lab Specialist will help manage the laboratory, perform research studies, and assist in experiments for Dr. Eric A. Hendrickson, PhD.
The successful candidate will be expected to:
Qualified candidates must have:
Education: Bachelor's degree.
Experience: 9 years of experience in a lab technician role. May substitute with Master's or Terminal degree plus 4 years of experience in a lab technician role and supervisory experience. 12 years of lab-related experience accepted in lieu of degree.
A Master's degree in molecular biology or other directly-related scientific field is preferred.
Required knowledge, skills and abilities:
The Senior Lab Specialist will report to Dr. Eric A. Hendrickson, PhD.
Physical Demands: This position can spend extensive periods of time standing and squatting while conducting experiments. Also requires keyboarding and other bench work and procedures requiring finer finger manipulation.
