The department of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics is searching for a Postdoctoral Associate in Machine Learning to work in the Carlson laboratory on a joint project with Kafui Dzirasa.




Work Performed


Post-doctoral research position(s) are available at Duke University to develop and apply machine learning methodology for electrophysiological data. This position is in the research group of Prof. David Carlson for a collaborative project with Kafui Dzirasa (Psychiatry/Neurobiology). The specific research application areas include building network analysis methods to make sense of electrophysiological neural data, to improve analysis in the context of behavior and neuropsychiatric disorders and translating discoveries into testable scientific hypotheses. In the past, this has meant proposing novel neural stimulation protocols and working to test them in collaboration with bench sciences. This is an exciting project that will build machine learning techniques to push the frontiers of neuroscience.




Education/Training



PhD in an engineering discipline, (bio)statistics, machine learning, physics, applied mathematics, computational neuroscience, or a related field. Candidates with non-US degrees may be required to provide proof of degree equivalency.




Experience and Skills


Qualifications include primarily a strong research portfolio in computational methods, statistical, machine learning, computational neuroscience, or a related field. Backgrounds in analyzing large datasets, modeling complex systems, and cutting-edge machine learning will be particularly valuable. These positions are highly quantitative and highly interdisciplinary.
