Job Summary
The Training and Quality Manager supports training and staff development needs for professional and classified employees of the Building Services department, which includes provides custodial care to all buildings on campus, including cleaning and minor repair. Creates, delivers, assesses, and tracks training and staff development activities and the effectiveness of these interventions. This position also conducts a regular cycle of quality assurance and control audits to ensure building cleanliness and repair complies with applicable standards.
Essential Functions
Leads development, implementation, and assessment of an integrated training and staff development plan for Facilities & Campus Services Building Services unit. This includes, but is not limited to, coordinating critical compliance trainings, conducting ongoing skill development workshops with unit leaders and supervisors, individual development plans, Safety Training Committee membership, and facilitating a Career Ladders initiative designed to provide Maintainer Is with professional development options.
In order to meet the diverse needs of Building Services staff, this position is responsible for developing sustainable English as a Second Language (ESL) tutoring and skill-building programs, translation services, and computer skill enhancement programs.
This position will regularly interface with Building Services leadership to foster related systemic growth and positive organizational change.
Implements a comprehensive Supervisory Skill Development Training Program for Building Services. Creates clear expectations and protocols, online and in-person training modules, learning materials in multiple mediums, and employees and tool assessments.
Ensures active engagement and integration into supervisors' daily work and tracking of related performance. Continually improves, expands, and sustains this initiative to ensure all supervisors are performing to established standards.
Pilots targeted skill development programs. Develops positive and effective working relationships within unit and across campus.
Sets expectations, forecasts needs, and leads department goal setting in the areas of training and staff development. Creates and manages systems for Facilities & Campus Services (F&CS) Buildings Services employee compliance and required training programs, employee records/accountability, and appropriate follow up.
Provides hands-on, on-the-job training as needed in techniques and equipment usage. Coordinates webinars, seminars, online trainings, and/or collaborations with other University offices. Supports and participates in related department and division-wide initiatives.
Liaises with related campus offices, including, but not limited to, Workplace Learning & Development, Partnership for Worker Education, Environmental Health & Safety, Police Department, University Human Resources, F&CS Human Resources, and other agencies critical to the training and development of Building Services staff.
Participates in discussions related to staff planning and resource allocation. Uses access to sensitive and/or not -yet public University-related information only in the performance of position and exercises care to prevent unnecessary disclosure to others. Participates in sensitive employee-related matters, such as acting as a grievance hearing officer and/or conducting labor relations discussions with decision-making authority for Building Services.
Leads assessment initiatives for the Building Services training and takes responsibility for the implementation of fair, effective, confidential, and well-documented assessment practices within the scope of the position. Regularly meets with unit leadership and staff to establish related best practices, learning outcomes, and training cycle coordination. Creates data-driven, cohesive, and sustainable training programs across the department that are related in core competencies development.
Responsible for daily oversight of the quality assurance program. Initiates, revises, and maintains quality documentation, procedures, manuals, and specifications.
Performs quality control inspections on a daily basis using a mix of one hundred percent inspection, random sampling, and periodic evaluation. Establishes and ensures all Acceptable Quality Levels are being met.
Creates reports and work tickets to be distributed internally, as well as to the customer, through various reporting systems. Follows up on and re-inspects unacceptable inspection results. Advises Building Services leadership and makes recommendations on staffing, training, and other factors to ensure quality services are provided.
Bachelor's Degree and at least five (5) years' work experience in custodial services or related field, including training development and/or educational responsibilities.
Previous experience teaching, training, and/or developing courses for diverse adult learners utilizing multiple formats and techniques.
Demonstrated experience in project management, committee chairing, and/or supervision of a work team.
Established skills in typical Microsoft Office suite software and experience developing and managing databases, assessment tools, and/or online course content.
Proven ability to honor confidentiality and exercise appropriate discretion.
Ability to work independently, managing routine work and assigned projects effectively.
