Job Description:

The Department of Plastic and Maxillofacial Surgery at University of Virginia (UVA) School of Medicine is looking for an American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS) eligible/certified plastic surgeon to join our team as full-time academic faculty. All ranks will be considered, with tenure eligibility also negotiable.



The position will have a large focus on oncologic breast reconstruction and a microsurgery fellowship and / or demonstrated proficiency in autologous reconstruction is preferable. Additionally, there are opportunities to contribute in established limb salvage and gender affirmation programs. Development of a lymphatic program would also be a potential opportunity for candidates. In addition, there are opportunities to provide general reconstructive and aesthetic surgery services.



The Department has a strong history and ample resources which position it well. The successful candidate will benefit from an aligned leadership within the health system and strong support for Departmental success. We have a growing and energetic faculty with a high volume of ongoing microsurgical services. A team approach will be emphasized which may include opportunities for co-surgeon models and shared call responsibility. Coverage of Hand / Upper Extremity trauma is not specifically requested in this position.



Demonstration of previous or ongoing academic accomplishment is important and will be further developed during the career trajectory. Additionally, an emphasis towards trainee education and mentorship will be highly preferable. At this time, the Department has a complement of 12 residents in a fully integrated program along with a variety of rotating students. The educational offerings are expected to grow significantly in the near future and active participation will be needed. Leadership development and involvement in local, regional, national and international plastic surgery activities is expected.
