Responsibilities

This position supervises the Maintenance staff and assists in preventative maintenance within research zone. More specifically, this position supervises the assigned staff and assists in the preventative maintenance of buildings, installation of equipment, emergency/exit lighting systems & intra-building utility distribution systems and fixtures. Additional responsibilities include:



  • Responds to requests for service or repairs from building occupants. Assists Shop or Contract personnel engaged in the performance of major equipment repairs, system modifications, or building renovations. Functions as the liaison for building managers to coordinate vendor and contract work within buildings in Research Zone.

  • Supervises the performance of and assists in the maintenance/repair work within research zone. Schedules outages to minimize interruptions of activities within research zone. Interacts with appropriate University staff to address areas of concern relative to the performance and timeliness of service and repairs. Inspects buildings and equipment at predetermined frequencies, records results, and initiates action to affect repairs or replacement. Orders hand tools and materials.

  • Approves daily timesheets and biweekly pay and leave reports. Reviews and updates daily backlog reports. Recommends and participates in actions relative to the hiring, commending, and disciplining employees as appropriate, disciplining employees as appropriate, and evaluates assigned employees. Ensures assigned employees are cross-trained in basic craft skills. Ensures assigned employees are aware of work place hazards and provides on the job training.

  • Assists in the preparation of the annual operating budget and recommends action relative to changes in personnel changes, capital equipment requirements, and materials and operating expenses.

  • Operates University vehicles as necessary and performs other related duties in support of the department.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalency & five years experience or a combination of post high school education and experience equal to five years.



  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to effectively train and direct the work of others.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

  • Ability to prioritize, organize and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously.

  • Ability to train and supervise employees.

  • Knowledge of and ability to identify safety hazards and necessary safety precautions to establish a safe work environment.

  • Knowledge of and ability to safely operate machinery, tools, equipment and materials used in area of work.

  • Knowledge of general maintenance principles, practices and techniques.

  • Driver's License, Class E

Preferred

The ideal candidate for this position would have:



  • Experience working in maintenance at a higher education institution.

  • Experience supervising staff working in different buildings on various maintenance issues.

  • Ability to work in more than one trade (i.e. HVAC, plumbing, electrical, etc.)

  • Experience conducting audits and inspections of completed work.

Other Information

The position incumbent is required to be accessible and available to return to work during off-duty hours. Per FSU policy, Pay Additives, incumbents are eligible to receive on-call pay. Eligibility is limited to USPS employees who shall be informed by the department via memorandum of the on-call assignment, except during an emergency.

Anticipated Salary Range

The minimum salary for this position is $38,060.
