The OB Technician works as a skilled technician in the Labor & Delivery department under the supervision of an RN to observe patients and provide outcome oriented, safe therapeutic, compassionate and cost effective care. Performs duties to assist families in the childbearing process and with their postpartum care. Prepares the operating room, selects and organizes the instruments, assists the surgeon, participates in surgical procedures taking into account physician preferences and patient care principles.


Work Location: Washington, D.C.

Minimum Requirements:


1.Ability to demonstrate understanding of human anatomy and related surgical procedures.
2.Ability to demonstrate understanding and application of sterile techniques and basic operating room procedure including prevention of infection/contamination.
3.Ability to demonstrate understanding and utilization of equipment and instrumentation necessary for surgical procedures.
4.Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
5.Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with staff and physicians utilizing interactional skills.
6.Ability to lift an adult, push and pull
7.High school level of education or GED equivalent.
8.Certification and/or successful completion of an Operating Room/Surgical Technologist training program are preferred and/or experience in lieu of a training program.
9.Associate degree in Allied Health or equivalent combination of education and clinical experience preferred.
10.Current Basic Life Support training.
11.Neonatal Resuscitation Program certification is required within the first 90 days following date of hire, if not certified at the time of initial employment.
12.Prefer hospital and/or medical work experience, which provide a basic knowledge of patient care.
