Buena Vista University is accepting applications for the staff position of Director of Bands.

We seek a dynamic and committed educator and musician with solid performance skills to provide leadership in collegiate bands - marching band, pep band, and concert band. The successful candidate must have demonstrated success directing bands, and small ensembles at the high school or collegiate level, as well as have experience conducting lessons on their instrument of choice. The successful candidate must have a record of establishing positive relationships with both internal and outside partners, including public/private high schools, and creating an innovative and inclusive learning environment. Responsibilities will include preparing, training, and directing the BVU bands which include marching, concert, and pep bands; teaching individual lessons on their preferred instrument, and traveling with students to competitions and performances. Additional responsibilities include collaborating with Admissions to recruit students who wish to participate in music as part of their college experience. The ideal candidate will have the ability to teach college-level, general education music courses. Bachelor's degree required; Master's preferred for this 12-month staff position. We are looking for candidates who are excited to work in a Midwestern setting at a small, private university. Buena Vista University has an enrollment of about 800 full-time residential students. The city of Storm Lake has a population of approximately 11,000 and is one of the most ethnically diverse communities in Iowa.
