Job Description:
1) Design, test, and evaluate state of the art AI methods (e.g. machine and/or deep learning) for assessing and monitoring soil health indicators (e.g. regression, classification, and interpretability and tailor-made digital infrastructure (e.g. cloud computing, Data Cubes, etc) and tools (e.g. sensing devices and actuators)
Coordination of data collection and field activities. Supervision of field operators and other staff working in various projects. Will require day travel to off-site field experiments.
Data Analysis (spaceborne and in situ; including multi-hyper spectral) and report writing for climate-smart agriculture projects and associated multi-disciplinary projects.
Provide education, training, and consultation to facility users/staff on the use of sensing systems and digital tools that may be used for data collection and analysis.
Development of digital tools (e.g. web-based and mobile apps, dashboards and visualization tools) to effectively share information to stakeholders at scales ranging from a single farm to regional level.
Collaboration with supporting the scientific (e.g. international conferences, journals) and extension work of the Soil Science A.I. laboratory by writing and co-writing refereed and non-refereed papers.
Delivery of A.I. -driven technologies for soil health monitoring and other relevant agricultural applications by representing the SWFREC program at state, federal, and international meetings/conferences.
Purchase digital equipment and supplies in support of the research and extension program.
Co-supervision of graduate students and op staff for research in the domains of A.I. and agriculture.
Provides technical support by troubleshooting, maintaining, and testing of the specialized equipment.

Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and one year of relevant experience
Preferred Qualifications:
M.S. or PhD in computational science , geo-information science or a related field.
Skilled in programming using a modern language for data analysis, such as Python, R, or other similar language.
Strong interest in computer science and data handling.
Knowledge of the procedures, techniques, and equipment used in A. I. testing and analysis.
Ability to install, maintain, and operate novel sensing systems for field and laboratory analysis.
Skills in data management as well as distributed processing of big scientific data (e.g. Spark, Hadoop, Cuda)
Experience in relational and non-relational data bases and APIs.
Experience and interest in geospatial analysis, Earth observation, and precision agricultural technologies is preferred.
Work or research experience in developing automated application systems (Web, desktop, mobile)
Ability to write reports for research findings in coordination with PI
Ability to develop educational materials for climate smart agricultural solutions
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
