The Patient Care Coordinator serves as the primary coordinator for managing daily patient throughput, ensuring the effective and efficient care of patients. The primary goals of this position are to improve hospital throughput of ED admits, Direct admits, Surgical admits, increase inpatient bed utilization and reduce patient or bed turnaround delays. Provides overall direction for and coordination of throughput throughout the assigned shift. Communicates continuously through the shift to ensure all hospital units and departments align with the plan and goal of timely patient movement. .The Patient Care Coordinator will facilitate a centralized bed management process to ensure efficient admissions and transfers, optimize occupancy and avoid delays in service. The Patient Care Coordinator directs and supervises patient care activities throughout the hospital twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week and on weekends and holidays. Functions as the ‘on the ground' operational lead for activities and patient flow on the assigned shift, communicating with leadership across departments.



Minimum Education and Experience:


  1. Graduated from an accredited program for Registered Nurses.
  2. Baccalaureate degree in nursing required. Master's degree in nursing preferred.
  3. Registration as a professional nurse in the District of Columbia.
  4. At least 5 year current experience in an acute care setting and demonstrated clinical and leadership ability.
  5. Current CPR Certification required.
