Job Description:
This position within the University Bursar, located in the Finance & Accounting division, is part of the Student Loans and Collections team. The Student Loans and Collections team administers student loans, reconciles student loan activity, and collects on balances due from current and former students. This position supervises the day to day operations of the Collections team, which is primarily responsible for managing and collecting on delinquent student loan and accounts receivable balances for current and former students.
Collections - Active Student Accounts Receivable: Communicates with currently-enrolled students with past due accounts receivable balances to enlist the student in a payment plan or to otherwise collect on the balance due. Monitors student holds to ensure service indicators are preventing students from progressing in their education without settling past due accounts. Creates proactive student communication to increase student retention while minimizing balances past due.
Collections - Former Student Accounts Receivable: Coordinates collection efforts prior to sending to collection agencies. Ensures timely placement to collection agencies, monitors collection agency activity, reviews monthly payment processing and approves account adjustments. Provides account documentation when requested by collection agencies. Serves as the primary liaison to collection agencies. Assists Assistant Controller in monitoring success rates of collection agencies and in determining future placement decisions.
Collections - Delinquent Student Loans: Coordinates collection efforts for students who have become delinquent on loans administered by the University. Counsel borrowers about potential deferment, cancellation, and forbearance options. Review/approve economic hardship, deferment or forbearance requests. Coordinates submission of student loan accounts to collection agencies.
Expected Salary:
$62,500 - $80,000 annually; commensurate with education and experience.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and six years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
