POSITION SUMMARY:
The Patient Care Technician is considered an “unlicensed assistive personnel (UAP)” by the Florida Board of Nursing and functions as an assistant to the RN or LPN through regular assignments and/or delegation of tasks under the supervision of the nurse or provider. This team member is accountable for the delivery of patient care at a demonstrated level of safe practice, based on scope and competency.
Work Hours:7:30am-8pm, Full Time, 40 hrs/wk

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Creates a welcoming environment by greeting patients, families and visitors, in person or on the telephone.
Assists patients by responding to patient questions and intercom requests. Obtains needed information or services from nurses and other personnel, resulting in a timely response back to the patient.
Performs patient specific clerical functions.
After confirming patient identification, documents patient care services performed.
Collects patient care related data inclusive of vital signs, medication lists, height and weights. Notifies nurse and other caregivers of findings.
Maintains unit operations by following policies and procedures and reporting needed changes.
Maintains patient confidence and protects hospital operations by keeping patient information confidential.
Maintains unit supply inventory by checking stock to determine appropriate inventory levels, anticipating needed supplies, placing and expediting orders for such supplies and subsequent restocking of supplies.
Keeps unit equipment operational by following manufacturer's instructions and established procedures; placing equipment out of service when necessary and arranging for repair.
Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations; adheres to infection-control policies and protocols.
Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
Assists in performing other patient care related activities as determined by the nurse/Supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A minimum of a High School diploma, GED, Certificate of Completion or equivalent achievement
Current certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Medical Assistant (MA), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or other healthcare related certification OR
One year of experience in a clinical setting, providing patient care OR
An external candidate enrolled in an approved BSN program OR
Current JHACH employee enrolled in either an Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) program or an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) program and have completed Fundamentals of Nursing Practice.
Current AHA BLS Certification
Patient care experience in a pediatric health care setting preferred
