General Overview:
The Associate Director of Development Communications assists the Senior Director of Communications in all communications related to the Office of Medical Development & Alumni Relations, including Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center and Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. This includes directing the workflow of the department in the Sr. Director's absence, representing the Sr. Director in meetings and/or exchanges with pertinent administrators regarding departmental requests, and coordinating assignments with the other writers, as needed. In addition, the Associate Director will serve as the lead writer for more donor and alumni-associated projects. This includes, and is not limited to, articles, events, campaigns, and other projects regarding donors, prospective donors, and medical alumni.
The Associate Director of Communications assists in all development-related publications, audio-visual materials,and digital and electronic media, and is responsible for helping to innovate and develop donor or alumni-related campaigns.
Essential Responsibilities:
Serve as the representative/delegate for the Sr. Director of Development Communications, directing the workflow of the department, representing the Sr. Director at meetings, and coordinating assignments with the other writers or colleagues, as needed.
Serve as lead writer for donor and alumni-related assignments as requested by the President, Sr. Vice President of University Advancement, Associate Vice Presidents, , and Development Officers.
Assist with talking points and speeches for the President, Sr. Vice President of University Advancement, Dean of the Miller School of Medicine, CEO of UHealth - the University of Miami Health System - and other leaders, as needed
Assist Sr. Director with writing assignments, such as donor or alumni articles, web and social media content, direct mail campaigns, and nominations for awards.
Assist Sr. Director with writing assignments, and other elements necessary to the development and presentation of the the University of Miami Medicine Magazine
Interview and develop relationships with key donors and alumni who are featured in medical school publications.
Participate in developing audio/visual and electronic media strategies for online and print fundraising projects.
Participate in script writing, producing, and field producing of department video creations.
Assist with the concept, writing and design of a monthly e-newsletter.
Assist with writing and the design of fundraising material, including powerpoint presentations, CASE statements, and web communications.
Help source and maintain content for the Division's alumni social media sites and create deployment strategies based on knowledge of analytics.
Assist with writing of collateral pieces for Division special events, such as the Donors and Scholars Luncheon and Medical Alumni Weekend.
Assist with editing and proofreading of invitations, programs, proposals, and other items, as needed.
Assist with researching subject matter and interviewing of physicians and donors for published articles.
Participate and attend evening and/or weekend events and activities, as needed, in support of the mission of the University and Division of Development and Alumni Relations.
Assist with maintaining strong lines of communication between the President and University Communications team, Miller School communications team, and communication officers of various schools and colleges.
Assist with the digital archiving of communications articles, photos, and other collateral.
Assist with securing estimates, consulting agreements, and invoices from independent contractors and ensuring proper routing through University channels for payment.

Qualifications:
Candidate must have a bachelor's degree and three years' effective and relevant work experience is required. Equivalent combinations of education/experience may be considered. Must have excellent command of the English language, both oral and written. Ability to communicate in Spanish is an asset. Computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Word and Access, required.

Patient safety is a top priority.
