Primary Role

Reviews and identifies risks on major risk management issues affecting the organization. Accountable for identifying, measuring and analyzing risk/insurance problems and defining and implementing risk solutions that help optimize operations.

Key Accountabilities


  • Directs and manages the renewals of all lines of insurance (including surety bonds) for the Company, its subsidiaries, and joint venture(s).

  • Manages the risk management and insurance department and its staff which includes the claims management team. Approves the settlement of insurance claims based on delegation of authority.

  • Lead efforts to lower enterprise risks through effective communication and education to business groups. Design and implement insurance and risk management policies and practices.

  • Provide contractual advice to supply chain through establishment of minimum insurance coverage and limit guideline and review insurance requirements for all contractors, vendors and suppliers.

  • Support all business development activities including mergers, acquisitions and divestitures completing risk management analysis in the due diligence process.

  • Assist and participate in the Enterprise Risk Management process to implement a unified risk management and reporting regimen across the Company.

  • Assists in the management of Company's captive insurance company.

  • Actively liaise with and educate state operations, accounting, financial services organizations and other key stakeholders.

  • Creates high level relationships with insurance companies, those utilized by the company and those that should be considered for future relationships.

Knowledge/Skills


  • Expert knowledge on insurance products and markets.

  • Expert knowledge of insurance claims and valuations.

  • Expert knowledge of surety bond market.

  • Knowledge of regulated utility and related services business risks preferred.

Experience/Education


  • Bachelor's level degree in Insurance/Finance required.

  • 8+ years general experience in corporate risk management with 5+ years in insurance claims management required, multi-line insurance management or financial management with Corporate Risk Management or Commercial Insurance Broker managing global or national accounts.

Travel Requirements

  • Approximately 5%
