Job Description:

POSITION TITLE: Assistant Golf Professional
REPORTS TO: Golf Course Director
SUPERVISES: Daily Clubhouse staff, concessions staff and volunteers
PURPOSE OF POSITION: The work involves operating a municipal eighteen-hole golf course and associated pro shop and concessions area. Public relations are a continuous requirement of this work. The incumbent will be required to work varied hours during the week including evenings, weekends and holidays when necessary as well as perform duties on an on-call basis as needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The assistant golf professional shall devote his/her time, attention, and energies to the performance of duties as an assistant golf professional at the assigned course and within the Recreation and Golf Department during their employment with the City of Papillion. They shall conduct themselves at all times in accordance with the rules, regulations, and standards accepted for golf professionals and established by the City of Papillion.
In cooperation with the golf manager, the assistant golf professional shall assist in the conduct of various golf tournaments and shall initiate and promote golf activities for the golfing public.
They shall cooperate with the golf manager, mens and womens golf clubs and their various committees. They shall also render professional advice, opinions, assistance and services as required.
The incumbent shall assist in administering a staff of employees, as necessary, to perform duties and meet requirements for sales, rentals and services, which are, in the opinion of the City of Papillion and the Director of Recreation and Golf, necessary to carry out their job responsibilities.
The incumbent shall operate and maintain the golf pro shop and course clubhouse for repairs, handling, storage, sales, leasing and services relating to golf, equipment, carts and party events/rentals.
The assistant professional agrees to be available, as necessary, to attend regular and special meetings of the golf course clubs to discuss areas within the realm of the professionals duties and those for the benefit of the assigned course and the City.
Supervise, where applicable, the starting of play by golfers, and the proper charging of green fees and other fees as necessary and required.
Operate and supervise an effective ranger/volunteer program at required locations.
The assistant golf professional is required to supervise and oversee the selling, renting, repairing of golf equipment, clothing and supplies, sell instructional services in golf play, rent power carts, and operate the facility driving range.
The incumbent shall assist in any way possible in the conduct of golf tournaments including, but not limited to, providing starting time, golf carts, scorecards, cart rosters, posting promotional literature, etc.
The incumbent shall cooperate with the City in the promotion of golf throughout the golf course system and the Junior Golf Program by providing lessons, range balls, instruction and various City-sanctioned tournaments.
Responds to patron inquiries and complaints and explains and enforces golf rules and regulations.
Computes handicaps, tournament flighting information and other scoring/handicap systems for patrons/leagues/tournaments as needed.
Rent golf carts, ensures the storage and security of the carts, and reports any damage or breakdowns to the cart mechanics.
Operates a concession counter, selling food and beverages to patrons as necessary.
Maintains accurate records or receipts, disbursements, and inventory, and prepares daily reports for the golf manager.
The assistant golf professional is responsible for the cleaning, upkeep and maintenance of the clubhouse facility on a daily basis to include but is not limited to, dusting, vacuuming all areas, cleaning restrooms, cleaning concession equipment, tidying up all patron areas, taking trash to dumpsters, picking up the clubhouse grounds and patios etc.
The assistant golf professional is responsible for the set up and tear down of all equipment utilized in the event of a tournament outing, special event or clubhouse/tent rental of any kind.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:
Performs other duties as directed or as the situation dictates.
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND ABILITY:
Knowledge of cash handling, inventory, and cost control procedures.
Ability to train, schedule, provide work direction to, discipline, and oversee the work of subordinate personnel.
Knowledge of the rules of golf and the modes of play.
Knowledge of golf rules and golf etiquette.
Knowledge of tournament and special event planning and scheduling.
Knowledge of methods to promote golf within the community.
Knowledge of golf training techniques.
Skill in marketing and public relations.
Skill in working with other PGA professionals and other golf courses.
Skill in working with other golf maintenance and recreation staff.
Ability to stimulate interest in the game of golf and the use of the Citys golf courses.
Ability to plan and oversee the operation of a 18- hole golf course program, including league formation, tournament scheduling, and tournament administration.
Ability to maintain accurate records of receipts, disbursements and handicaps, and to prepare reports detailing them.
Ability to communicate to respond to patron inquiries and explain and enforce golf rules and regulations.
Ability to prepare clear and concise reports.
Ability to understand oral and written instructions.

ESSENTIAL EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION AND/OR LICENSES:

1. Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelors Degree in Golf Management, Business Management or like degree preferred or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
2. Must have 2 years of experience in the area of Golf Management, Golf Course Clubhouse experience, Parks and Recreation management experience or Business Management experience with 2 years of responsible supervisory experience.
3. Must possess a valid drivers license.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed primarily indoors in an office/concession environment amid normal conditions of noise, fumes, odors, and dust.
Ability to stand and walk from 76 to 100% of the time; climb and reach from 26 to 50% of the time; and balance, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, crouch, push and pull up to 25% of the time.
Ability to move objects weighing up to fifty (50) pounds up to 33% of the time, weighing up to twenty (20) pounds from 34 to 66% of the time; and weighing up to ten (10) pounds from 67 to 100% of the time.
