About the role:

Join Takeda as a Senior Medical Director, Gastroenterology (GI) where you will provide leadership to achieve both near and long-term deliverables for US GI medical affairs, specifically in medical and scientific strategy. Strategic development will be built on scientific platforms that support the product strategies for assigned compounds within the GI therapeutic area. As part of the US Medical team you will report to Vice President, US Medical - GI. This is an office-based role located in Lexington, MA (hybrid).

How you will contribute:

The primary responsibility of this role is to lead strategic efforts for the disease area franchise, with the opportunity to provide strategic leadership across the GI therapeutic area in the development of core deliverable(s).

• Lead and direct relevant medical responsibilities by providing scientific insights and strategic and operational excellence for disease area franchise, including all life cycle management activities, launch excellence, and innovative external engagement initiatives.

• Collaborate with Medical and Scientific Directors to build annual Medical Plans for assigned compounds by participating and leading committees to realize Takeda's overall medical vision.

• Collaborate with New Product Planning Team and optimize launch excellence teams.

• Be the US Medical representative for all necessary teams or committees, including: Functional and Commercial Planning, Financial planning (MRP and LRF) team for GI, competitive intelligence, Patient Access , Global Product Teams (GPTs), various development committees, MMRP Review, IISR and Medical Affairs Research, phase 4 / life cycle management, integrated evidence generation, Medical Education, Publications, and other cross-functional teams as designated or as the compounds evolve and progress in development.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Lead strategic relationships internally with GI Business Unit, US Medical office, and R&D.

• Function as the GI Medical Director

• Identify innovative opportunities to enhance clinical pathways supported by evidence generation to establish clinical and economic value related to GI Franchise.

• Lead activities to align with USBU's MRP and LRF planning.

• Provide medical direction and review for pre- and post-launch regulatory strategies

• Develop and maintain relationships externally through Advisory Boards, Professional Associations, Professional Meetings and Conferences, etc. to achieve Takeda's scientific and medical objectives.

• Provide strategic guidance to integrated evidence generation planning in support of the publications strategy for assigned compound(s).

• Provide input to confidential New Business Development opportunities within the respective therapeutic area of expertise, as required.

• Provide support for departmental initiatives that further our business, and support other departments within Takeda such as New Product Planning, Government Affairs, and some TAU related projects, etc.

• Serve as US Medical Affairs expert and representative in Global Medical Affairs teams for assigned products including MST, GPT sub teams, EvGen Strategy Team, Global Pubs, etc.

• Serve as US Medical Affairs representative on regulatory affairs activities, interactions with FDA and other regulatory agencies

• Serve as US Medical Expert in assigned NPP assets in development, participating in Medical Planning development, KOL mapping, investigator site identification, and early US strategy development.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

• MD, DO, PhD or Pharm D degree required with at least 10 years of relevant clinical practice, research, academic and/or pharmaceutical industry experience.

• Experience with clinical research, health authority interactions, publication activities, congress presentations, and public speaking.

• Leadership experience with proven skills for execution and implementation of novel strategies, including external scientific affairs including development of digital communication capabilities and adaptability for target audiences.
