  • 3 years of quality inspection experience in aerospace manufacturing

Howmet Fastening Systems (HFS) is seeking a Quality Tech, Inspection at our City of Industry, CA location. HFS is a business unit of Howmet Aerospace, headquartered in Torrance, California. We hold the number one global position in aerospace fastening systems, and we're the North American leader in commercial transportation fasteners. Our high-tech, multi-material fastening systems are found nose to tail on aircraft and aerospace engines. Our products are also critical components of industrial gas turbines, automobiles, commercial transportation vehicles, and construction and industrial equipment.

Job Duties and Responsibilities


  • Receives router with samples of parts and verifies correct paperwork, logs, lot number and quantity on daily log sheet.
  • Inspects parts to process drawings, manufacturing drawings or customer drawings.
  • Dimensionally inspects parts per print, examined visually for surface defects such as nicks, scratches, improper finishes or burrs. Then transfers router and completed parts to the outgoing area or placed in the test lab as applicable. Raw material used in part verified. If incorrect material used a rejection is written.
  • Performs 1st article inspection using the process drawing to verify parts acceptability.
  • Completes 1st article paperwork which includes notifying machine operator or supervisor of any non-conformance.
  • Inspects parts by using 1\" and 2\" micrometers, veniers calipers, optical comparators, depth micrometers, concentricity drop indicators, microscope, bench center indicators, torque beam wrenches, digital torque testers, alloy type tester, rockwell hardness tester, thread and plug gauges, tri rolls, flat rolls, magna gauges, etc.
  • Conducts in-process inspection and tests per CIRS (Compliance Inspection Requirement Sheets), if CIRS is not applicable, the process or manufacturing drawing is used to verify the parts compliance up to the point of completion. Inspection of all previous performed operations.
  • Conducts final inspections and tests per customer drawing.
  • Maintains CPI (Certified Production Inspection) and SPC (Statistical Process Control) in-house certifications. Performs CPI/SPC audits in the manner described by Certified Production Inspection Statistical Process Control Quality Control Procedure.
  • Computes angles, radii, and other unspecified dimensions of work piece.
  • Measures angular dimensions, radii, contours, clearances, thread lead, and other specifications.
  • Tests units for fit of moving parts and mechanical functioning.
  • Tests parts for hardness.
  • Inspects, adjusts, and verifies accuracy of gauges and measuring instruments for conformance to specifications.
  • Examines defective parts to determine cause of defect and recommends changes or modifications.
  • Determines salvage ability of defective items.
  • Measures surface finish of part.
