What We're Looking For: Barge Design Solutions, Inc. is currently seeking to fill the position of Mechanical Designer in our Facilities Engineering Solution Center.
Responsibilities:
Applies standard engineering procedures and techniques to complete well defined design
Completes tasks in the areas of HVAC, plumbing, piping, fire protection, and utility system design
Produces documentation for issue to client for projects of all size in multiple CAD platforms
Participates in conferences with clients to establish project objectives and resolve problems.
Asks appropriate questions to determine scope of project work
Performs routine manual calculations regarding piping design for liquids and gases such as calculation of pressure drop and pipe sizing, and the selection of valves and inline fittings
Conducts inspections of construction work and prepares inspection reports
Demonstrates a strong commitment to quality work
Works independently in developing preliminary and finished designs by analyzing reports, maps, specifications, and drawings related to the project
Prepares design computations and quantity estimates using various software packages
Coordinates with clients, teaming partners, and other disciplines.
Performs building and system evaluations and inspections
Other duties as assigned
Education & Experience Qualifications:
Two year degree in Engineering Technology, Computer Drafting or equivalent with 10 years relevant experience in design and drafting or other relevant combination of education and / or experience
Familiar with fundamental mechanical design concepts and must be capable of performing routine calculations regarding HVAC load calculations, piping layout, pipe sizing, and equipment arrangements
Familiar with plumbing system design including ability to interpret and apply plumbing codes
Familiar with materials of construction regarding material compatibility with various service conditions for equipment and piping
Basic familiarity with fire protection system design including ability to interpret and apply fire protection code
Capable of checking and approving shop drawings
Proficient in any 3D CAD package: REVIT is preferred, but Microstation and AutoCAD are also acceptable
Must demonstrate strong ethical behavior while striving to produce quality work within project budgets and schedules
Must understand the value of Client satisfaction
