Enterprise Operations Command Center - Distributed Operations

Infrastructure Engineering Senior Advisor

Overview

The Enterprise Operations Command Center (EOCC) strives for better patient and client outcomes by elevating availability and achieving higher reliability of our IT infrastructure, by driving down resolution times through enhanced situational awareness and accountability.

Responsibilities


  • Functions as an EOCC Triage Team member and subject matter expert utilizing academic and/or practical systems and/or application-level performance skills for analysis, troubleshooting and monitoring of key IT components.

  • Functions as a lead investigator for systems and application outages, issues, resolution, and testing.

  • Will function as a primary technical subject matter expert in one or more areas of Technology investigation. Examples - Cloud computing, infrastructure, operating systems, applications, databases, network.


Job Duties
  • Proactive

  • Solicit and provide technical direction into constant improvement in the performance monitoring and analysis process to improve availability and reduce future mean time between failures.

  • Understand the technical design, current and proposed usage of infrastructure and IT services, as well as the maximum capacity and target performance of each component.

  • Utilize best practices of tooling, metrics, correlation, anomaly detection, methodologies, and education. Utilize expertise in these areas from industry, training, academia, and in-house conceptual testing.

  • Provide performance related feedback to Capacity Planners, application and product owners, platform and command center operations teams .

  • Reactive
  • Work with EOCC Incident and Problem Management, application owners, and support towers to lead or assist in resolving any performance or capacity related incidents or severe system/application problems.
  • Preventative
  • Support application Performance Volume Stress/Resiliency (PVSR) testing with the level of engagement varying by project scope, criticality or when performance problems are encountered during testing.
  • Service Level

  • Analyze performance information to establish/update performance baselines and projections.

  • Report on service and component performance against the targets.

  • Mentoring
  • Provide training and mentoring to other team members and to the IT community on systems and application performance topics in order to create and build better performance troubleshooting skills at various technical tiers and computing disciplines.
  • Additional

  • Attendance at continual technical training courses and conferences is required.

  • 24x7 support may occasionally be required.

  • Document process, procedures and technology used by EOCC

  • Create Standard Operating Procedures for team to follow.

  • Uses deep professional knowledge and acumen to advise functional leaders.

  • Focuses on providing thought leadership within Technical Support but works on broader projects, which require understanding of wider business.

  • Recognized internally as a subject matter expert.

  • Education
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related discipline, OR a high level of comparable and focused work or academic experience
  • Required Skills

  • In depth knowledge of Linux and/or Windows operating system and VMware hypervisor

  • Familiarity with one or more systems/application/network management and performance tools (Splunk, Dynatrace, TeamQuest, Prometheus, Opnet/Riverbed, NetScout and Wireshark)

  • Deep understanding of system capacity and availability concepts

  • Knowledge of the project and application development lifecycles as they pertain to resource capacity requirements

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels of the organization

  • Strong problem determination skills

  • Definite Plus Skills

  • In depth knowledge of container technology, OpenStack, OpenShift, Kubernetes, Pivotal Cloud Foundry

  • Understanding of Java Virtual Machine internals and performance concepts (heap and thread analysis and tools)

  • In depth knowledge of Windows Server operating system

  • Familiarity with AWS, Azure and other public and private cloud services

  • Knowledge of one or more database and middleware technologies (JBoss, WAS, DB2/UDB, Oracle, SQL Server. MongoDB, HADOOP)

  • Familiarity with one or more programming, scripting or configuration management languages (Puppet, Ansible, Python, PowerShell, .NET languages, etc)

  • Vendor training and/or certifications

  • Network analysis skills including packet capture concepts
