Job Description:

The RNA Division is seeking a Research Scientist to conduct fundamental and applied research at the interface of chemistry and biology. Projects will involve the design and generation of innovative molecular tools to track, manipulate, and interrogate synthetic and endogenous nucleic acids. Research will be undertaken in a highly collaborative and fast-paced environment where publication of results is expected.

Primary Responsibilities:

•    Plan and conduct experiments to support a research program focused on the study of nucleic acids.
•    Develop and implement novel methods and reagents for targeted enrichment, detection, and sequencing of nucleic acids.
•    Perform chemical and biochemical derivatization of oligonucleotides. Design assays to probe and characterize functional oligonucleotide conjugates.
•    Participate in multidisciplinary collaborative research projects within NEB and with external laboratories aimed at the discovery of nucleic acid modifications and their processing enzymes.
•    Write technical reports, present in scientific conferences, and publish articles in peer-reviewed journals. 

Required Qualifications:

•    Ph.D. in chemistry, biochemistry, or a related discipline, with emphasis in nucleic acid research.
•    Experience with techniques for isolation, chemical manipulation, and characterization of nucleic acids.
•    A strong record of scientific publication.
•    Proven ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects in a team-oriented environment.
•    Ability to work as part of a large multidisciplinary team and personal drive to lead projects in a technically challenging field.
•    Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

•    Familiarity with nucleic acid modification enzymes.
•    Hands-on experience with mass spectrometry techniques is a plus.
