Job Description:

We approach problems with creativity and innovation. The dam design group is seeking a Senior Level Dam Safety Engineer to be based out of Lexington, Kentucky to support our growing business. We are looking for a motivated candidate with attention to detail, a passion to continue to develop as a professional, and a desire to be a part of a strong team.

Job Responsibilities:


  • Develop and maintain relationships with clients that provide sources of work for the firm.

  • Manage projects through investigation, analysis, design, and construction, and/or serve as a technical lead on those projects.

  • Assist in negotiation of engineering contracts for the firm.

  • Work with business development, branch, and business unit staff to effectively respond to requests for proposals or present Schnabel’s qualifications.

  • Perform management duties related to securing contracts, managing and completing the authorized scope of work, selecting and managing sub-consultants, and collecting receivables.

  • Manage and mentor junior engineers, commensurate with experience level.

  • Some travel will be required to meet with clients, support project work, and maintain relationships with personnel in other Schnabel offices.

Required Skills/Experience:


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Geological Engineering, from an ABET-accredited institution.

  • 10+ years of relevant work experience in dam engineering. Experience in other disciplines, including Water Resources, Geotechnical, and Structural will also be considered.

  • Licensed Professional Engineer in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, or the ability to obtain such licensure within 6 months.

  • Design and construction management experience on projects involving dams with increasing level of responsibility.

  • Prior experience with public sector (local, state, or federal government) projects.

  • Valid driver’s license and dependable transportation.

  • Strong oral and written communications skills.

  • Strong professional work ethic and desire to perform at a high level.

  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.

  • Attention to detail and well-organized.

Other Requirements:


  • Ability to pass a background check which may include criminal history, motor vehicle record, and credit check

  • U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Resident status is required.

  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening.
