Job Description:

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:  Works under the direction of the Director of the Office of Business Diversity & Compliance (OBDC) to assist in the development and implementation of business certification processes. Recruits vendors for the certified and registered list of the Office of Business Diversity & Compliance.  Evaluates businesses and clients for certification with the Business Development Center. Promotes OBDC services to small, minority and women owned business by implementing an intensive outreach effort to identify, obtain, and provide materials and data to clients on available resources. Monitors City's database of request for information, quotes, and/or proposals to match small, minority and women owned vendors to bid opportunities. Works closely with management and staff to develop and implement various Business Development projects and programs. Keeps abreast and conducts research of data, trends, organizational processes and practices, existing and new regulations. Ensures the certification process complies with local, state and federal regulations. Collaborates with providers of outreach programs to create community awareness of the all City of Memphis business services programs, resources and opportunities. Serves as a liaison to strategy partners such as Memphis Housing Authority, Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Memphis Commission, and other non-profit service providers as assigned. Attends meetings and conducts business visits by traveling to various offices and locations throughout the City.

 

OTHER FUNCTIONS:  

1.       Performs additional functions (essential or otherwise) which may be assigned.

 

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  Must be able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing with management, staff members, contractors and the general public. Requires the ability to operate general office equipment such as a personal computer and telephone. Requires the ability to operate an automobile to travel to various locations throughout the City.

 

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:  Majority of work is performed in an office except during meetings and office visits. Some evening and weekend shifts may be required. Travel to various locations throughout the City is required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in Business or Public Administration, Finance, Economics or related field and six (6) years' experience in business consulting, loan servicing, or economic development; or any combination of experience and training which enables one to perform the essential job functions. Must have working experience of software programs including Microsoft Office applications. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license as a condition of continued employment.

 

The City Charter requires that City Employees must establish residence within Shelby County within six (6) months from date of Employment. Proof of residence will be required at the time of hire.
