Overview 

The primary responsibility of this position is to design, develop, test and production release Axle, Transfer Case and Suspension systems and components for NA and global Off-Highway, Specialty & Defense markets, with focus on product/cost optimization (VA/VE). This person will interface with customers, suppliers, test labs, purchasing, business units, production manufacturing facilities, and several internal engineering groups (truck axles, brakes, vehicle dynamics, analytical mechanics, experimental mechanics, materials, etc.).



Job Responsibilities:

•    Perform engineering analysis necessary for the production design, application and testing of axle/suspension, components, and systems. This will include the use of CAE tools such as CREO, MECHANICA, ANSYS, etc.

•    Manage all aspects of engineering products according to customer requirements with focus on coordinating project timing, costs, test plans and prototype builds.

•    Create preliminary concepts of component/systems and work with designers to release detailed drawing packages.

•    Establish good working relationships with team members, outside suppliers, customers and various internal groups.

•    Identify, verify and implement solutions to warranty or quality problems that affect product performance.

•    Visit plant & support for proto builds

 

Required Qualifications 

•    Bachelor's degree in Engineering required (MS preferred) 

•    2-3 years full time, direct, practical experience to include:

o    Experience in Off-Highway & Specialty vehicle products and systems

o    Experience with Planetary axle housing & wheel-end

o    Design of structural components (forgings, castings, weldments)

o    Creation and maintenance of DFMEA and DVP&R tools.

•    Excellent communication skills using multiple formats

•    Experienced using 3D part & assembly modeling software (CREO)

•    Excellent understanding of static analysis, fatigue analysis and familiar with fundamentals of dynamic and kinematic studies

•    Well versed with all MS Windows software

•    Knowledge of product development stage gate product development processes (e.g. GP3 or Advanced Product Quality

•    Planning (APQP) including involvement in the launch of a new product.

 

Preferred Qualifications 

•    Knowledge and understanding of vehicle dynamics 

•    Experience with geared systems 

•    Experience with cost reduction activities and processes (VA/VE)

•    Knowledge of fabrication, casting and forging manufacturing processes 

•    DFM/DFA (Design for Manufacturing / Design for Assembly) 

•    DFSS (Design for Six Sigma)
