Position Summary

We are seeking an individual who is looking for opportunities to gain more experience in the field of Viticulture and Grower Relations. The ideal candidate will have a passion for knowledge and a willingness to learn, with a background in Agriculture, Viticulture or the Wine Industry.  

Under direction of the Grower Relations Manager, this position is responsible for collecting and communicating vineyard data from grower’s vineyards as well as mapping, data tracking, and administrative duties.  Will also act as the lead in collecting and processing grape samples for harvest.

This is a temporary assignment seasonal position, generally between April typically lasting May through October. Schedules are determined on an as needed basis to keep up with grape processing. This may include occasional weekend work, and overtime.

Responsibilities


  • Field Scouting

  • Crop Estimates

  • Water Stress Monitoring

  • Irrigation Uniformity Checks

  • Insect Trap Monitoring

  • Harvest Maturity Sampling

  • Operation of ATV

  • Orient to, map and tag grower vineyards.

  • Monitor vineyards and record/report data on phenological stage, pests & diseases, irrigation status, vine health and cultural practices.

  • Collect and record data for estimating crop yields.

  • Collect, process, and deliver maturity and baseline samples during harvest, coordinate with winery labs for analysis.

  • Assist with supervising and scheduling harvest sampling crew.

  • Assist GR Manager with organizing and communicating results.

  • Make and report sensory observations of grapes in relation to ripeness and harvest timing. Monitor vineyards for potential harvest issues.

  • Participate in training and safety programs to enhance job performance and knowledge.

  • Personify a culture of personal and community safety

  • Safe operating procedures, support safety programs and policies to safeguard personal

  • safety, company property, environmental and team member’s safety.

Minimum Qualifications


  • Ability to work from May through end of October

  • Ability to work various shifts including weekends and overtime


  • Recent graduate or pursuing a degree in Viticulture/Agriculture or related field High school education, Bachelor’s degree and/or viticulture/agriculture coursework

  • Ability to do basic math, use email, phone app, and read/follow a map.


  • Excellent organizational and communication skills – oral and written

  • Experience in computer applications (Excel, Word, and Outlook).

  • Valid Driver’s License and clean DMV record.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Previous harvest experience

  • Previous viticulture/agriculture experience or familiarity with vineyard environment and grape growing

  • Ability to communicate in Spanish

  • Reliable and strong sense of commitment

  • Self-starter attitude

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

Involves prolonged outdoor exposure in a range of weather conditions, loud noises, toxic chemicals and working near moving mechanical parts. Frequent walking, standing, sitting, bending, kneeling, crouch or crawl in vineyards. Must be able to stand and walk over rough or uneven terrain. Must be able to move up to 55 lbs. Must have a valid driver’s license. Must be flexible with scheduling and willing to work long hours during crop estimation periods and harvest. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.


  • Ability to work well outdoors in prolonged and potentially hot or inclement conditions.

  • Ability to spend long periods of time standing & walking over rough or uneven terrain, bending, or crouching in vineyards.

  • Ability to climb stairs and lift 50 lbs.

  • Able to work a flexible schedule including overtime as requested in order to accommodate the needs of harvest operations.

  • Must be able to work independently and with minimal supervision.
