  • This position is for weekend evenings.

  • These hours are subject to change.

  • Maximum 10 hours per week.

  • This is a part-time staff position, not a student position.

  • This position is for the academic year (fall & spring semesters only).

  • Under the direction of the Circulation Desk Manager and the overall direction of the Library Director, the Part-Time Circulation Desk Assistant is responsible for overseeing the operations of the Circulation Desk and North Wall Desk and performing closing procedures.

Job responsibilities:


  • Oversee activities of undergraduate and graduate student employees within the Circulation Services Department.

  • Report any library maintenance, equipment, and security issues.

  • Close the Library.

  • Handle Reserve Collection items, lending technology items, and other materials.

  • Process library materials using WMS library automated system.

  • Provide basic security by patrolling the Library on regular rounds and ensuring patrons present Stevens ID cards upon entering the building.

  • Assist students, faculty, and staff with computers, printer/copiers, and scanners.

  • Organize the library furniture.

  • Miscellaneous office tasks as assigned.

  • Become familiar with library website content.

  • Monitor study rooms using LibCal system.

  • Distribute and collect study room keys and other material.

  • Handle and redirect incoming calls as needed.

  • Follow and implement established policies and procedures of the university and the Library.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Preferred skills:


  • Commitment to excellent customer service is critical.

  • Fluency in English language with clear speaking voice and good communication skills.

  • Friendly, approachable, outgoing demeanor.

  • Supervisory experience preferred but not necessary.

  • Reliable, punctual, and able to follow-through with tasks.

  • Detail-oriented, resourceful, and organized.

  • Sound judgement and excellent problem-solving skills.

  • Able to handle multi-tasking.

  • Ability to work well with others (students, faculty, staff, colleagues).

  • Experience using MS Office and Google Drive (Documents/Sheets).

  • Knowledge of library operations/systems preferred but not required.

  • Ideal candidate should reside in Hoboken or nearby.
