Job Title: Assistant Track Superintendent

Department: Racing

Reports To: Track Superintendent

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Assistant Track Superintendent is responsible for assisting the Track Superintendent in coordinating activities of workers engaged in repair, maintenance of racetrack surfaces by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate workers. Reviews job orders to determine work priorities. Schedules repair and maintenance of racetrack surfaces to ensure continuous operations. Supervises activities of workers. Develops preventive maintenance program in conjunction with track staff. Plans, develops, and implements new methods and procedures designed to improve operations, minimize operating costs, and effect greater utilization of labor and materials. Requisitions tools, equipment and supplies required for operations. Directs training and orientation of workers to improve work performance and acquaint workers with company policies and procedures. Will abide by all safety requirements as outlined in the Safety Manual or as required by individual departments and/or job functions.

RISK MANAGEMENT - will manage risk factors within the company department or division employed, in

uch a way as to eliminate company exposure to insurance claims and legal/court challenges. Ensures that

all company, department or division activities and operations are carried out in compliance with local, state,

and federal regulations and laws governing business operations. This includes but is not limited to adherence

to Human Resource, safety and workers' compensation policies and procedures.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly supervises 4+ employees in the Track Maintenance Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in

accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and

training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining

employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALFICATIONS

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or

equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Must be able to obtain an Indiana Horse Racing License.
