UNFI is searching for a General Manager to join our Ft. Wayne team to oversee all aspects of warehouse and transportation operations throughout the distribution center.

Job Overview:  

Through a constructive and energetic style, guided by the objectives of the company, the General Manager is responsible for the leadership, management, and vision necessary to ensure that the distribution center has the proper operational controls, administrative and reporting procedures, and people systems in place to effectively grow the organization and to ensure financial strength and operating efficiencies.  This position identifies areas of opportunity, develops strategic plans, and drives targeted results through the DC team.  The General Manager is both a people and profit leader and is considered a critical role within UNFI.


 

Job Responsibilities and Accountabilities: 


  • Manages entire DC Profit & Loss statement and is accountable for warehouse, transportation, and facilities.

  • Evaluates talent within DC and provides development opportunities for talent to create a strong, promotable bench.

  • Uses cost modeling tools to determine business impact to DC and Customer.

  • Establishes detailed goals and appropriate measurements for the DC that are aligned to distribution strategy.

  • Creates detailed financial plans for the DC that support network business objectives.

  • Partners with cross-functional teams to solve customer challenges.

  • Creates a culture of learning and development within DC through training, feedback, and mentoring.

  • Inspires a positive environment within the DC by encouraging two-way communication between management and associates.  Maintains open-door policy and supports any union appeals processes.

  • Proactively manages labor relations issues and associate concerns, minimizing union grievances.

  • Drives continuous improvement processes in the DC and greater distribution network.  Challenges existing processes and experiments by implementing improvements.


 

Job Requirements:  


  • Bachelor's degree in Logistics/Supply Chain Management or related Business degree.

  • 10 years of experience minimum working in a fast-paced distribution center with a high number of SKUs.  Experience and knowledge of warehouse/shipping operations including 3PL’s, warehouse management systems, inventory controls, warehouse improvement processes, and labor management.

  • Food distribution experience preferred.

  • 5 years of leadership experience minimum.  Experience managing in customer-focused environments.

  • Experience with incentive programs/systems and creating a highly engaged workforce.

  • Union experience a plus.

  • Advanced ability with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel.

  • Ability to manage budgets and execute projects within scope, schedule, and budget.

  • Advanced negotiation skills.

  • General knowledge of State and Federal Transportation Regulations.

  • Intermediate knowledge of Risk Management concepts.
