WCAI seeks to inform, educate and enlighten our audience on both the news of the day and the news in historical context through in-depth, high quality journalism using the best tools and methods of the craft.
The Cape and Islands NPR Stations WCAI, WNAN and WZAI are GBH's NPR Stations based in Woods Hole on Cape Cod. These radio stations broadcast news and information programs from NPR, PRI, the BBC as well as award winning locally produced content.
The Associate Producer will be tasked with compiling newscasts, responding to breaking news and monitoring ongoing stories for developments.
The candidate should be an exceptional writer, understand how to find and tell a good radio story, be proficient with digital media and work calmly under deadline pressure.
This person should be comfortable with using adobe audition software and also be able to run the board. The candidate must have a strong understanding of journalism principles and have a proven ability to present balanced reporting.
The Associate Producer will work closely with the Morning Edition host, and will report to the Managing Director of News.
Gather, cut and edit audio
React to breaking news and monitor ongoing stories for developments
Quickly and accurately pull audio clips for use in the show
Write original stories for the web and assist with social media
Record two-way interviews
Write and publish quality digital content on deadline
Fill-in as host when needed
Must be a voracious consumer of news, a self-starter who is able to work collaboratively with a fast-paced, nimble staff.
Excellent verbal communication and organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines; ability to be flexible as news breaks or show rundowns change.
Positive attitude, ability to work with hosts and other producers in a team environment
Excellent computer skills, including recording devices and technology, specifically experience with audio editing/recording software is required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience required. The ideal candidate will have at least 1-2 years of experience in journalism.
