The Opportunity:

Central to Urban’s mission is fostering a truly inclusive community that ensures ongoing relevance to a changing world. The Office of Human Resources for the Urban Institute seeks a seasoned recruiting professional and equity leader to transform the Executive Recruiting model at Urban. The Director, Executive Recruitment will develop and execute a comprehensive diversity, equity & inclusion executive recruitment strategy.

The successful candidate will provide comprehensive executive recruitment services with a consulting mindset by delivering strategic insights and guidance to senior leadership. This person will also help Urban achieve its vision of a workplace where all staff is equitably treated, valued, and included in our work and community, regardless of their identity, experience, disability, or role. The successful candidate will identify, attract, and source qualified, diverse director- level/senior fellow and above talent, spanning all functions focusing primarily on Research & Policy.

What You’ll Do:

  • Strategically advise executives and senior leaders by helping them define and achieve their senior/executive talent agenda.

  • Develop and execute research strategies for identifying strong potential diverse candidates

  • Establish each search as a project by defining the timing of phases, monitoring progress against those expectations, and providing consistent communication to all stakeholders.

  • Produce well-written and compelling job postings

  • Ensure all candidates are provided with timely updates concerning the status of their application and interviews. Prepare and negotiate offer packages, helping Urban attract and secure top industry talent.

  • Build a strong network of diverse high-potential candidates through research and relationships with internal and external partners.

  • Focus on innovation and ideation in diversity recruiting to create unique solutions to strengthen the Talent Acquisition department further.

  • Utilize data and analytics to inform and optimize strategy, influence senior leaders, and understand market trends.

  • Maintain data integrity and compliance using Urban’s applicant tracking system (Workday) and provide relevant data to inform decision-making.

  • Engage with and coach other Talent Acquisition team members to ensure a high quality of service to hiring managers on ultimately exceeding key departmental goals.

  • Guide and/or participate in cross-organizational projects and initiatives related to diversity in talent acquisition.

  • Ensure compliance with state/federal laws, regulations, and Urban policies related to recruitment and placement.

Who You Are:

  • Possess a bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration or relevant subject area and a minimum of 10years experience in successfully progressive talent acquisition roles, or equivalent experience.

  • Attainment of one or more certifications, CSP/CSC/PHR/SPHR, preferred.

  • Be a champion of diversity, equity and inclusion with experience in creating practices that elevate an organization’s commitment to attracting and retaining a fully representative workforce.

  • Possess experience delivering strategic guidance and recommendations to senior-level leaders, implementing talent acquisition process improvements, change management, and leading project work.

  • Demonstrated experience of directly sourcing, attracting, and hiring senior talent with an offer development of compensation packages totaling over $200k preferred.

  •  Has experience with recruiting Research & Policy professionals by utilizing proactive diversified sourcing strategies, including LinkedIn recruiter, social media applications, data mining, and online sourcing techniques.

  • Demonstrated experience with developing candidate profiles, building candidate pipelines, and utilizing behavioral-based interviewing techniques and practices.

  • Has worked in a complex, matrix organization with a highly professional demeanor and gravitas to partner with hiring teams, senior leaders, and candidates who have high expectations in a high-touch culture.

  • Possess excellent influencing, problem-solving, and negotiation skills, with a strong appreciation for customer service and diplomacy.

  • Use strategic thinking skills, the ability to steer change, and excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Possess excellent organizational and prioritization skills with strong attention to detail.

  • Knowledge of Workday, our Applicant Tracking System, is preferred.
