Working at the LaMaster Dairy Center, this position is responsible for assisting in the care, feeding, and management of young cattle, operation of farm equipment, and robotic milker. Assists with research and teaching activities to accomplish experiments and instruction. Completes other duties as assigned.
50% - Essential - Animal Management: Primarily responsible for feeding, care and management of young cattle on farm. Includes feed mixing, deliver, and monitoring. Observation, reporting, and administering animal health and management protocols. Maintain sanitation of facilities. Follows, assists, and provides herd health protocols and vaccinations protocols for all animals.
35% - Essential - Equipment and Facilities Operation: Operates all farm equipment including tractors, trucks, skid steers, loaders, dump trucks, feed wagon, hay grinder, and others as necessary. Request and assist with maintenance of farm equipment. Assists with operation of DeLaval robotic milking system as needed. Coordinates fence repair and building maintenance. Assists with lagoon operations for DHEC compliance.
15% - Essential - Research and Teaching: Coordinates with farm manager to prepare animals and supplies for research and teaching activities. Assists research and teaching faculty with sample collection and instruction activities. Assists and/or conducts tours for classes, camps, and visitors in a professional manner.
Education - Bachelor's Degree in Animal Husbandry, Agriculture, or a related field Experience - 1 year of relevant work experience. Work experience in animal care or agricultural research may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.
