Job Description:

The Doe Run Company is seeking a Steel Handler to convert lead contaminated steel into nonhazardous material and provide for proper removal and storage. This position is located at the Buick Resource Recycling Facility in Boss, MO.

Resource Recycling hourly new hires will receive a $1,000 sign-on bonus.  $500 paid after 6-months of employment and $500 paid after 12-months of employment.  Subject to the terms and conditions as further described at the interview.


  • Cut lead contaminated steel into blast furnace material using a cutting torch, bobcat shear, floor shear, and plasma cutter as needed.

  • Identify different types of metal, sort, and place in proper storage area.

  • Power wash appropriate material to be removed from site.

  • Correctly identify properly decontaminated material for removal off-site.

  • Fill in as sweat furnace operator as work load dictates.

  • Perform minor preventative maintenance on equipment.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience:

  • Experience working in a yard or plant. 

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Mobile equipment certification.

  • Environmental safety and health rules and regulations training.

  • HAZ MAT training.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Skilled in the use of a cutting torch and bobcat shear.

  • Ability to identify tramp material (material other than steel).

  • Knowledge of plant layout and procedures.

  • Ability to follow safety, health, and environmental rules and regulations.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

  • Regularly required to wear personal protective equipment, including, but not limited to, respirator, hearing protection and eyewear and to work near moving, mechanical parts.

  • Occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions, vibration, and extreme heat.

  • Exposed to loud noise levels. 

  • Frequently requires standing, walking, reaching with hands/arms, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and repetitive movement.

  • Occasionally requires sitting, feeling attributes of objects, grasping, pushing, and driving.

  • Requires clarity of vision, three-dimensional vision, the ability to judge distance and spatial relationships, precise hand-eye coordination, and the ability to identify and distinguish colors.

  • Regularly required to lift up to 25 pounds; frequently required to lift up to 50 pounds; occasionally required to lift up to 75 pounds.
