We are seeking experienced candidates for a Drafter/Designer (Mid-level) to assist with Renewable Energy projects in the greater Glen Allen, Virginia area. The designer/drafter will be working in a challenging and variable environment that will include detail-oriented independent work and client interactions. The successful candidate will have the aptitude to succeed in supporting multiple projects while supporting business development efforts in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment.

Responsibilities include:


  • This Mid-level position will offer you the opportunity to utilize and expand your drafting skills, while working in a multi-disciplined team environment with other designers and/or engineers in the preparation of design drawings based on design input
  • You will have the opportunity to apply your computer-aided drafting skills in 3D design software environments;
  • You will be involved in creating master sketches to scale showing relation of proposed installations to existing facilities and exact specifications and dimensions
  • While interfacing with Clients you may be given the opportunity to explain your drawings so appropriate design adjustments can be made

Requirements:


  • Minimum of an Associate's Degree or 8 years experience with an emphasis in civil drafting, computer aided design or similar.
  • Proficient in using AutoCAD/Civil 3D software 2018 and newer;
  • Ability to visualize parts in 3D without the aid of the computer
  • Familiar with the following modules:

    • Survey, Points, Surfaces, Design, Alignments, Profiles, Corridors, Sections, Pipe Network, Volume Calculations, Labeling, Analyzing and Vehicle Tracking.
    • Familiar with surveyors provided files and coordinate systems.
    • Familiar with Data short cuts and file organization.
    • Prepare and revise Grading Plans as directed by the given criteria.

  • Able to calculate cut/fill volumes and balance the quantities as needed.
  • Ensure the X-REF files are reconciled and in the right folder.
  • Plotting/Printing files for both review and final submittal, following the CTB and PC3 files that are provided.
  • Ensure technical accuracy of drawings, layouts, details, material lists and space allocation.
  • Be able to evaluate alternatives and resolve technical issues.
  • Ability to multi-task from project to project
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of technical plans, drawings, and models
  • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology, including the ability to relate a variety of renewable energy equipment to a technical design
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Microsoft Project).
  • Strong and creative problem-solving ability.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from clients, coworkers, and the general public.
  • A Pre-employment drug screen in compliance with state regulations is required
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record without restrictions

Other Desirable Skills and Qualifications:


  • A strong working knowledge of commonly used civil, structural and electrical engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, and procedures within the engineering services industry.
  • Thorough knowledge of engineering standards, codes, and other applicable state and federal guidelines.
  • Research and compile project related data, studies and reports as required by clients, project managers or other engineering disciplines.
  • Prepare specifications and other requirements for issue for tenders and construction for civil infrastructure /structural works for solar facilities.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment to deliver projects of varying complexity or products that exceeds client expectations.
  • Experienced in stormwater management, site design, and erosion and sediment control.
  • Must be proficient and literate in engineering analysis and design software.
  • Ability to work on multidisciplinary projects including structural, geotechnical and/or marine engineering with working knowledge of database programs, GIS, and CAD.
  • Other duties may include performing quantity calculations, soil sampling, report preparation, standard engineering details, CAD design, performing and checking engineering calculations and attention to detail.
