The summer internship program is a full-time commitment of 12 weeks in length and offers a unique perspective into a world-class pharmaceutical company. Our internship program also provides you the opportunity to network with people at Takeda through various planned events and activities.

Project Outline:

Develop Data Strategy Framework for Non-alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD)/Non-alcoholic Steatohepatitis (NASH)

Liver disease is one of the pillars within the Gastroenterology Therapeutic Area, that includes both rare liver diseases (e.g: AATD-LD, Alagille Syndrome) and chronic liver diseases (e.g. NAFLD/NASH). There is currently no approved therapy for NASH, however several clinical trials are in progress for molecules with different mode of actions. There are several registries (national/international) with objectives to better understand the natural history, use of non-invasive assessments, biomarkers to better diagnose/monitor patients, including identifying and validating potential markers to measure treatment response. Additionally, several other data sources/data platforms also capture key outcomes for NAFLD/NASH which can be leveraged to support real world evidence strategy.

Project will be focused on developing a comprehensive Data Strategy Framework in collaboration with different stakeholders within Data Sciences Institute to support real world evidence generation strategy for overall NASH portfolio.

A high-level overview of project execution will include (but not limited to):

• Working with cross-functional stakeholders of the program team, and broader Data Sciences Institute to evaluate evidence needs


• Review literature to identify potential data sources/collaborations that might address evidence needs


• Comprehensively assess data sources for data availability, data quality etc. specific to evidence needs (Eg: leverage public information or conduct 1:1 qualitative assessment of the data sources)


• Shortlist key data sources and summarize the findings


• Mapping of the sources per evidence needs to generate a comprehensive Data Plan

Expected Deliverable: A detailed PowerPoint slide deck accompanied by excel file with details of the data sources.

This will be a hybrid role.

Requirements / Qualifications:

The requirements for these two groups of candidates are specified below:

Candidates currently enrolled at an accredited university:

• Must be authorized to work in the US without sponsorship (i.e., Takeda will not sponsor interns)


• Must be available to work full-time (40 hours/week), within core business hours (8 AM-5 PM), for a minimum of 12 weeks during the summer months


• Minimum GPA 3.0/4.0


• Undergraduate, Graduate, PhD with at least one year of university studies before internship in the field of Public Health, Population Health Sciences


• Return to university for at least one semester post-internship


• Takeda does not provide student housing or housing stipends

Non-traditional candidates not currently enrolled at university:

• Must be authorized to work in the US without sponsorship (i.e., Takeda will not sponsor interns)


• Must be available to work full-time (40 hours/week), within core business hours (8 AM-5 PM), for a minimum of 12 weeks during the summer months


• Must provide a cover letter explaining why you are seeking this internship, relevant experience that makes you a good candidate, and what you hope to achieve through the experience
