About the program:

Gain one-of-a-kind experience in Cybersecurity & Technology Risk Management with Northern Trust, a global financial solutions company. During this 24-month program, you will perform meaningful assignments that maximize cybersecurity protection for our clients, while receiving ongoing mentoring and training from some of the industry's most experienced thought leaders. As part of the program, you will have the opportunity to rotate across all three "lines of defense," Technology, Risk Management, and Audit.

Together, we will customize a development path focused on your interests and experience. During four, six month rotations, you will be able to experience the following areas:


  • Cybersecurity & Technology Risk Management
  • Threat Risk Management
  • Security Technology
  • Technology
  • IT Audit

The program additionally provides participants with dedicated ongoing support and professional development opportunities that include:


  • Orientation. Deepen your understanding of Northern Trust's strategic

initiatives. You'll learn why your role is critical to growth of the business.

  • Mentoring. You'll be mentored by an experienced senior advisor who knows

the ins and outs of your chosen career track. You'll also partner with a former

associate in your track who provides ongoing support.


  • Speaker Series. Hear directly from top-level executives about business

methodologies and career journeys through a monthly speaker series.

  • Summit Week. Midway through the program, you'll realign your focus with

opportunities in community service, public speaking and a competitive business

case challenge.


  • Enrichment Club. Engage in continuous learning opportunities with other

rotational development associates through meaningful discussions on relevant

business books and topics.


  • Committee Participation. Develop organizational and leadership skills

by serving on program committees, including philanthropy, social events,

professional development and more.


  • Alumni Network. Get introductions and career advice through a network of

Rotational Development Program alumni.

After successfully completing the program, qualified participants will work with program coordinators and managers to join the team that best leverages the experiences they've gained throughout their rotations, meets their career interests, and the needs of the organization.

The role begins summer 2023.

You will be part of a diverse and talented team providing the technical horsepower on assignments working with:

1 st Line of Defense

Technology

This area offers the opportunity to experience the various groups within the Enterprise Technology department under the Chief Information Officer (CIO). Rotations will span the numerous departments and gain experience working with the various groups that secure, develop and maintain the Firm's technology including:

Technology Risk And Controls

This area offers the opportunity to experience the core functions of the Technology Risk and Controls team under the Technology Risk & Control Officer. Responsible for ensuring technology teams comply with controls, standards and procedures, participants will have the opportunity to work with various IT standards, governance and oversight activities, issue management, and assist with regulatory and client responses.

Information Security

This area offers the opportunity to experience the core functions of Information Security in support of the identification, analysis, and mitigation of threats to internal IT systems or networks under the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO). Participants will assist with Northern Trust's 24x7 security monitoring model and improving NT's ability to protect and defend its networks and information. Potential rotations include, vulnerability management, threat intelligence, threat hunting, data science.

Public Cloud Engineering Team

This area offers the opportunity to experience the core functions of the Public Cloud Engineering Team (PCET) under the Chief Architect. Participants will have the opportunity to work on various cloud projects, including exposure to cloud engineering and architecture activities involving Azure and AWS platforms. Additionally, teams will be able to assist with the development, attestation and enforcement of PCET related processes and controls.

2 nd Line of Defense

Risk Management

This area offers the opportunity to experience the various groups within the Risk Management department under the Chief Risk Officer (CRO). Rotations will span the numerous departments and gain experience working with the various Information security-related groups that make up Risk Management including:

Cybersecurity & Technology Risk Management
This area offers an opportunity to rotate through the core functions of the Information Security & Technology Cyber Risk Management groups under the Chief Information Risk Officer (CIRO). This group is responsible for the wide range of testing and management of cyber risk activities across the bank. Potential rotations include security awareness and training, governance risk & controls, penetration testing, cyber metrics and risk assessments.

Threat Risk Management

This area offers the opportunity to rotate through the core functions of threat risk management under the Cyber Threat Risk Management Officer (CTRMO). These groups manage various response activities to risks that may impact the Bank's day-to-day operations. Potential rotations include Enterprise Incident Management, Cyber Exercises, Strategic Intelligence, Digital Brand Protection, and Insider Threat.

3 rd Line of Defense

Audit

This area offers the opportunity to rotate through the core functions of auditing activities under the Chief Audit Executive (CAE). Members will learn about technology processes and standards supporting Northern Trust's global operations, the risks that Northern Trust faces and the controls designed to keep our technologies and business operations safe. Participants will gain hands on experience on concepts around effective control design and effectiveness and putting those concepts into use, independently reviewing technology focused controls across multiple technologies, platforms and applications.

Required Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year university in Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Accounting, Finance, or other related discipline.
  • No more than 3 years of Post-Graduation work experience
  • Cumulative undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

Highly desired qualifications:

  • Information Security, IT Audit or IT Risk Management internship or work experience
  • Awareness of Information Security disciplines, such as secure application development penetration testing, threat intelligence, and security awareness
  • Basic understanding of IT risk management concepts to identify risks associated with the use of information technology
  • Ability to prepare, organize and write documents that communicate proper justification and support risk ratings
  • Leadership, teamwork and client servicing ability
  • Analytical, quantitative and problem solving skills, along with adaptability and ability to learn quickly in high-pressure environments
  • A well-rounded character, appreciating diversity and valuing inclusion
  • Knowledge and interest in the financial services industry
