Job Summary

The Legal Operations Associate Director will work closely with the Director of Global Legal Operations and business stakeholders at all levels of the Company. The Legal Operations Associate Director is a broad generalist role that manages activities of one or more project teams engaged in the evaluation, design and implementation of projects.

In this role, you will ensure projects are completed on schedule, within budget, and meet technical and scope requirements. You will oversee various assigned projects across the full range of subject matter supported by Legal Operations, partnering with various business units. Projects are complex in nature including assessment, design, planning, implementation, and measurement of the success of various operational improvements and transformational initiatives across the department. Projects will have high impact to the business, focusing on people, process, and technology. You will be responsible for project team assembly, assigning responsibilities, identifying appropriate resources, and developing schedules to ensure timely completion of projects in support of the Senior Director of Global Legal Operations and General Counsel’s strategic plan. 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Support the Global Legal Operations Sr. Director with planning, execution, reporting and metrics in alignment with the General Counsel’s objectives.

-Gather and compile project information, define project success measures and measure project output against those KPIs

-Lead the activities of multiple projects, work streams, or functional areas

-Create efficiency and savings, sharing best practices and improving processes within the Legal team’s organizational structure, systems, and technologies; responsible for results in terms of costs, methods, and outcomes

-Resolve issues and ensure task completion by establishing priorities and reaching compromise with team members and functional managers

-Interpret and execute existing policies and procedures that affect management; recommend and draft new or modified procedures and processes, driving these with planning, goal setting, and metrics measurement in alignment with the Sr. Director of Global Legal Operations and General Counsel’s objectives.

-Design and lead special projects that are highly sensitive or complex in nature, requiring a high-level of independence and initiative in execution and implementation.

-Evaluate, communicate, champion, and provide business cases (including identification and mitigation of project risks) for new services and projects that increase effectiveness and enhance the value being created by Legal Operations.

-Lead Legal Operations projects, including project design, execution, change management, training and communications, to ensure that potential impact is realized.

-Establish daily tasks necessary for successful project execution

-Collaborate with all levels of stakeholders to establish objectives, timelines, milestones, and budgets

-Resolve issues and ensure task completion by establishing priorities and reaching compromise with team members and functional managers

-Recommend project or program decisions, procedures, or policies to higher level management

-Develop mechanisms for monitoring project progress and for intervention and problem solving

-Analyze gathered data for decision making in conjunction with other project leaders

-Develop and manage policies and procedures that affect project management within the Legal Operations team

Expected Areas of Competence


  • Complete understanding and application of project management principles, concepts, practices, and standards

  • Full knowledge of project management and legal operations practices

  • Demonstrated leadership skills including the ability to stay focused on the big picture while sorting through details; ability to independently move projects forward by gaining support needed from others.

  • Analytical and strategic mindset, with the ability to draw conclusions and make sound business judgments and provide informed recommendations to project team and legal leadership.

Education/Experience Requirements


  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • A minimum of 8+ years of experience in legal project management, legal department/ law firm matter management or operations successfully delivering projects OR Master’s degree with 5+ years of experience managing and successfully delivering projects

  • JD, a plus

  • PMI, Six Sigma or equivalent certification required 

Travel Requirements

Up to 10%
